While no severe weather is expected at this time, <strong>frequent lightning<\/strong> and <strong>brief downpours<\/strong> are likely, especially during the <strong>afternoon and evening hours<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Since <strong>Wednesday<\/strong>, scattered <strong>showers<\/strong> have already moved through the region, with more on the way for <strong>Thursday evening<\/strong>. Though inconvenient for holiday plans, this moisture is actually welcome: <strong>Fort Lauderdale<\/strong> remains <strong>10 inches (25.4 cm)<\/strong> below average rainfall for the year, while <strong>Miami<\/strong> is over <strong>5 inches (12.7 cm)<\/strong> short.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Potential tropical system forming near Northeast Florida<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>At the same time, a <strong>low-pressure area<\/strong> just <strong>northeast of Florida<\/strong> is being closely monitored by the <strong>National Hurricane Center<\/strong>. As of <strong>Thursday morning<\/strong>, forecasters give this system a <strong>60% chance<\/strong> of developing into a <strong>tropical cyclone<\/strong> over the next seven days. Any formation is likely to occur <strong>offshore<\/strong>, near the <strong>Southeast Atlantic Coast<\/strong>, and <strong>away from Florida<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Environmental conditions are only <strong>marginally favorable<\/strong>, but during <strong>hurricane season<\/strong>, fronts like these can sometimes trigger more organized systems. Even without full development, this system could still bring <strong>heavy rain<\/strong> to parts of the <strong>Southeastern U.S.<\/strong>, especially along <strong>Florida\u2019s central Gulf Coast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The system is expected to <strong>move east<\/strong>, gradually pulling away from the coast. A <strong>direct impact<\/strong> on <strong>South Florida<\/strong> looks <strong>unlikely<\/strong>, but indirect effects\u2014especially in the form of enhanced rain chances\u2014remain possible.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>July 4 forecast: shifting storms and fireworks hope<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As we head into the <strong>holiday weekend<\/strong>, the overall pattern suggests <strong>afternoon and early evening thunderstorms<\/strong>, followed by <strong>mostly dry mornings<\/strong>. This shift comes as <strong>winds turn from the southwest<\/strong>, a setup that tends to fuel <strong>late-day storm activity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s exactly the forecast for <strong>Thursday<\/strong> and into the <strong>weekend<\/strong>.
