Thursday, July 3<\/strong>, intense thunderstorms<\/strong> swept into the southwest Las Vegas Valley<\/strong>, triggering temporary flight groundings<\/strong> at Harry Reid International Airport<\/strong> and prompting a severe thunderstorm warning<\/strong> across Clark County<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The National Weather Service<\/strong> issued the alert warning of gusts up to 60 mph<\/strong> and hail the size of quarters<\/strong>. While there were multiple reports of hail, it turned out to be smaller than pea-sized<\/strong> in most areas. The strongest recorded wind gust peaked at 49 mph<\/strong> in North Las Vegas<\/strong>, slightly below initial warnings.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Rainfall<\/strong> totals varied across the valley<\/strong>, with the south side<\/strong> receiving the most significant accumulation. A rain gauge<\/strong> near Rainbow Boulevard<\/strong> and Cactus Avenue<\/strong> measured 0.63 inches<\/strong> (about 1.6 cm<\/strong>), while other stations, including one close to the South Point Hotel<\/strong>, recorded just over half an inch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As the storm approached the airport<\/strong>, departures<\/strong> were briefly halted<\/strong>, causing delays<\/strong> that officials feared might continue. However, by Thursday night<\/strong>, operations were largely back on schedule<\/strong>, with most flights on time<\/strong> or experiencing only minimal delays<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The thunderstorm warning<\/strong>, which included much of central Clark County<\/strong>, officially expired at 4 p.m.<\/strong> However, its effects were already being felt by 3:15 p.m.<\/strong>, when a storm system<\/strong> over Southern Highlands<\/strong> was spotted moving east at 15 mph<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The warning covered a wide area, impacting Henderson<\/strong>, Boulder City<\/strong>, Southern Highlands<\/strong>, Anthem<\/strong>, Lake Las Vegas<\/strong>, Mountains Edge<\/strong>, Green Valley<\/strong>, Enterprise<\/strong>, Sam Boyd Stadium<\/strong>, Paradise<\/strong>, Spring Valley<\/strong>, The Strip<\/strong>, East Las Vegas<\/strong>, Sloan<\/strong>, Railroad Pass<\/strong>, Seven Hills<\/strong>, Silverado Ranch<\/strong>, Harry Reid International Airport<\/strong>, Allegiant Stadium<\/strong>, and Black Mountain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Late in the day, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue<\/strong> responded to a rescue call<\/strong> near Symphony Park<\/strong> in downtown Las Vegas<\/strong>, where two people<\/strong> were seen yelling for help<\/strong> from inside flood control channels<\/strong>.
