Mexico<\/strong> is closely watching the development of a new tropical system in the Pacific Ocean<\/strong> that could soon become Cyclone Gil<\/strong>, the seventh named storm of the season. The National Water Commission (Conagua)<\/strong> and the National Meteorological Service (SMN)<\/strong> are monitoring a low-pressure area<\/strong> that\u2019s currently showing signs of intensifying.<\/p>\n As of this Friday morning, July 5<\/strong>, the system is located about 345 miles (555 kilometers)<\/strong> south-southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero<\/strong>, and is moving west-northwest<\/strong>. It’s currently tied to Tropical Wave No. 8<\/strong> and carries a 40% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours<\/strong>, increasing to 80% over the next seven days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The low-pressure zone is forecast to evolve into a tropical cyclone by the weekend<\/strong>, remaining south of the coasts of Guerrero and Michoac\u00e1n<\/strong>. If it continues on this trajectory and strengthens, the system will officially become Cyclone Gil<\/strong>. This would mark the seventh tropical system<\/strong> of the 2025 Eastern Pacific hurricane season<\/strong>.<\/p>\n So far this year, the Eastern Pacific basin<\/strong> has seen three tropical storms<\/strong>\u2014Alvin<\/strong>, Cosme<\/strong>, and Dalila<\/strong>\u2014along with three hurricanes<\/strong>: B\u00e1rbara<\/strong>, Erick<\/strong>, and Flossie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Starting Saturday, July 5<\/strong>, the system will likely move parallel to the coasts of Guerrero, Michoac\u00e1n, and Colima<\/strong>, dragging with it moisture-laden clouds<\/strong>. These could lead to widespread showers and strong thunderstorms<\/strong> in several regions of southern and western Mexico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The storm’s circulation<\/strong> and outer rainbands are expected to bring moderate to heavy rain<\/strong> across a wide stretch of the country.<\/p>\n On Saturday<\/strong>, rainfall forecasts include:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Heavy to very heavy rainfall (2 to 3 inches \/ 50 to 75 mm)<\/strong> in parts of southern Sonora<\/strong>, southern Chihuahua<\/strong>, Durango<\/strong>, Sinaloa<\/strong>, and Nayarit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Scattered strong showers (1 to 2 inches \/ 25 to 50 mm)<\/strong> in Coahuila<\/strong>, Nuevo Le\u00f3n<\/strong>, Zacatecas<\/strong>, Aguascalientes<\/strong>, Jalisco<\/strong>, Colima<\/strong>, Michoac\u00e1n<\/strong>, Guerrero<\/strong>, Oaxaca<\/strong>, and Chiapas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Light to moderate showers (0.2 to 1 inch \/ 5 to 25 mm)<\/strong> in Tamaulipas<\/strong>, San Luis Potos\u00ed<\/strong>, Guanajuato<\/strong>, Quer\u00e9taro<\/strong>, Hidalgo<\/strong>, Mexico State<\/strong>, Mexico City<\/strong>, Morelos<\/strong>, Tlaxcala<\/strong>, Puebla<\/strong>, Veracruz<\/strong>, Tabasco<\/strong>, Campeche<\/strong>, Yucat\u00e1n<\/strong>, and Quintana Roo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n While the system’s future is still being determined, all eyes are now on the Pacific<\/strong>, as Cyclone Gil<\/strong> could be taking shape just offshore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Mexico is closely watching the development of a new tropical system in the Pacific Ocean that could soon become Cyclone Gil, the seventh named storm of the season.
