Heat advisory in effect across Western and Central New York<\/strong><\/p>\n Sunday, July 6<\/strong>, a dangerous heat wave<\/strong> is gripping much of Upstate New York<\/strong>, prompting the National Weather Service in Buffalo<\/strong> to issue a heat advisory<\/strong> from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.<\/strong>. The heat index<\/strong>\u2014which combines temperature and humidity<\/strong>\u2014is expected to soar into the upper 90s to around 100\u00b0F<\/strong> (37\u00b0C to 38\u00b0C<\/strong>), increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Areas most affected<\/strong> by this intense heat<\/strong> include Western New York counties<\/strong> such as Niagara<\/strong>, Orleans<\/strong>, Monroe<\/strong>, Wayne<\/strong>, Northern Cayuga<\/strong>, Oswego<\/strong>, Genesee<\/strong>, Livingston<\/strong>, and Ontario<\/strong>, as well as Central New York counties<\/strong> including Onondaga<\/strong>, Seneca<\/strong>, and Southern Cayuga<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Although temperatures alone<\/strong> may hover in the low to mid 90s\u00b0F<\/strong> (33\u00b0C to 35\u00b0C<\/strong>), the high humidity levels<\/strong> will make it feel significantly hotter<\/strong>, particularly during the early afternoon through early evening<\/strong> hours.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Outdoor workers<\/strong>, especially those exposed to direct sun<\/strong>, are facing hazardous conditions<\/strong> and are strongly encouraged to take frequent breaks<\/strong> in shaded or cool areas<\/strong>.
