This same system is responsible for the <strong>heavy downpours<\/strong> seen along the <strong>Guadalupe River<\/strong> during the <strong>Fourth of July<\/strong> holiday, but meteorologists say it&#8217;s beginning to weaken.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>San Antonio<\/strong>, the <strong>National Weather Service<\/strong> reports a <strong>50% chance of showers and thunderstorms<\/strong> through <strong>Saturday<\/strong>, with the possibility of up to <strong>half an inch of rain<\/strong>. Thanks to <strong>rain-cooled air<\/strong>, afternoon highs are forecast to stay <strong>below 85\u00b0F (29\u00b0C)<\/strong> \u2014 nearly <strong>10 degrees cooler than the typical early July average<\/strong>. In fact, <strong>San Antonio<\/strong> hasn\u2019t recorded a <strong>July 5 high temperature below 90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong> since <strong>2007<\/strong>, when it reached just <strong>88\u00b0F (31\u00b0C)<\/strong>, also following a rain event.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Why the pattern is shifting<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>According to the <strong>High-Resolution Rapid Refresh Model<\/strong>, the <strong>bulk of the rainfall<\/strong> through <strong>Sunday morning at 7 a.m.<\/strong> is expected to <strong>drench the Hill Country<\/strong>. The system driving the rain \u2014 an <strong>upper-level disturbance<\/strong> \u2014 is <strong>weakening<\/strong>, though still capable of <strong>isolated pockets of intense showers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>National Weather Service<\/strong> notes that by <strong>Saturday night<\/strong>, the <strong>storm motion<\/strong> will become <strong>more progressive<\/strong>, which <strong>reduces the risk of flooding<\/strong>. Although some <strong>localized heavy rain<\/strong> could still fall during the day, the <strong>overall precipitation amounts<\/strong> are expected to <strong>decline<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>By <strong>Sunday<\/strong>, <strong>San Antonio<\/strong> should begin to <strong>dry out<\/strong>, with <strong>partly sunny skies<\/strong> returning and <strong>temperatures rebounding<\/strong>. Sunday\u2019s high is expected to reach around <strong>90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong>, still roughly <strong>5 degrees cooler than average<\/strong>, but that trend won\u2019t last long.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Heat gradually returning across South Texas<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Despite the cooling effects of recent rain, <strong>humid southeast winds<\/strong> off the <strong>Gulf Coast<\/strong> are pushing <strong>tropical air<\/strong> into <strong>South Texas<\/strong>, keeping <strong>heat index values<\/strong> in the <strong>low 90s\u00b0F (32\u201334\u00b0C)<\/strong>. The <strong>National Blend of Models<\/strong>, a composite forecast tool, supports this trend, showing a gradual increase in temperatures as we head into <strong>next week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Monday<\/strong>, <strong>San Antonio<\/strong> will experience <strong>mostly sunny skies<\/strong> with a <strong>high around 92\u00b0F (33\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Overnight temperatures will drop to <strong>about 73\u00b0F (23\u00b0C)<\/strong>. <strong>Tuesday\u2019s forecast<\/strong> mirrors Monday, with <strong>highs near 93\u00b0F (34\u00b0C)<\/strong> under <strong>mostly clear skies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>By <strong>Wednesday<\/strong>, the <strong>subtropical ridge<\/strong> of <strong>high pressure<\/strong> is expected to strengthen, leading to <strong>hotter and drier conditions<\/strong>. <strong>San Antonio<\/strong> could see highs reaching <strong>95\u00b0F (35\u00b0C)<\/strong>, marking a <strong>return to typical July heat<\/strong>.
