Chantal<\/strong> made landfall along the South Carolina coast<\/strong> early on Sunday, July 6<\/strong>, around 4:00 AM local time<\/strong>, near Litchfield Beach<\/strong>, according to the National Hurricane Center<\/strong>. The tropical storm<\/strong> is now moving inland and rapidly weakening, but it\u2019s still bringing unstable weather conditions<\/strong> to parts of the region, especially across the eastern and northeastern Midlands<\/strong>.<\/p>\n While the worst of the storm<\/strong> will stay along the coast<\/strong> and areas east of Columbia<\/strong>, portions of the Midlands<\/strong> may still experience tropical downpours<\/strong> and strong gusty winds<\/strong>. The counties most affected<\/strong> include Kershaw, Sumter, Lee, Clarendon, Calhoun, and Orangeburg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A Lake Wind Advisory<\/strong> is in effect until 8:00 AM<\/strong> Sunday for the easternmost counties<\/strong>, where wind gusts<\/strong> could reach up to 30 mph (48 km\/h)<\/strong>. These same areas will have a higher likelihood of locally heavy rainfall<\/strong>, especially in low-lying spots<\/strong> or places with poor drainage<\/strong>, where minor flooding<\/strong> cannot be ruled out.<\/p>\n Today will be mostly cloudy<\/strong>, with high temperatures around 85\u00b0F (29\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Tropical showers<\/strong> will remain concentrated in the eastern and northeastern regions<\/strong>, with occasional gusty winds<\/strong> between 20 and 30 mph (32\u201348 km\/h)<\/strong>. The most intense weather is expected in the morning<\/strong>, with conditions improving by the afternoon<\/strong>, though a few isolated showers<\/strong> may still linger.<\/p>\n As Chantal<\/strong> exits the region, drier air<\/strong> will move in beginning Monday<\/strong>, leading to a sharp warm-up<\/strong>. Highs will reach around 94\u00b0F (34\u00b0C)<\/strong> on Monday and climb to nearly 98\u00b0F (37\u00b0C)<\/strong> on Tuesday. The weather will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy<\/strong>, with rising humidity levels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Starting Wednesday, July 9<\/strong>, another unsettled pattern<\/strong> will move in, with a daily chance of scattered thunderstorms<\/strong>. Rain chances are around 50%<\/strong> on Wednesday, with highs in the mid-90s (around 34\u00b0C)<\/strong>.
