Saturday, July 6, 2025 \u2013 Hampton Roads, Virginia<\/strong> The 4th of July weekend<\/strong> has delivered picture-perfect weather<\/strong> so far across Hampton Roads<\/strong>, with Friday’s celebrations<\/strong> enjoying bright sunshine<\/strong> and clear skies<\/strong> for fireworks displays. Today\u2019s weather<\/strong> continues the trend, with high pressure<\/strong> sitting overhead and easterly winds<\/strong> helping keep temperatures mild<\/strong> and humidity comfortably low<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This Saturday morning<\/strong>, many locations across Southeast Virginia<\/strong> reported dewpoints in the upper 50s to low 60s<\/strong>\u2014a rare and pleasant break for early July<\/strong>. However, that refreshing air mass<\/strong> won\u2019t last much longer. Winds are expected to shift tonight<\/strong>, allowing more humid air<\/strong> to return, making conditions stickier<\/strong> overnight and into Sunday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n With dry air<\/strong> dominating for now, Saturday will remain mostly sunny<\/strong> across Virginia Beach<\/strong>, Norfolk<\/strong>, Newport News<\/strong>, and surrounding areas. High temperatures<\/strong> will climb into the mid to upper 80s\u00b0F (29\u201331\u00b0C)<\/strong> with light to moderate winds<\/strong> from the east between 5 and 15 mph<\/strong>. This will likely be the most pleasant day<\/strong> of the long weekend.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Some patchy clouds<\/strong> may appear over eastern North Carolina<\/strong>, and there\u2019s a slight chance of an isolated shower<\/strong>, but any precipitation will be brief and scattered<\/strong>. Outdoor plans should proceed with minimal disruption<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n If you’re heading to the coast<\/strong>, expect favorable beach conditions<\/strong>, especially north of Cape Hatteras<\/strong>. However, the southern Outer Banks<\/strong> are under a moderate risk for rip currents<\/strong>, influenced by Tropical Storm Chantal<\/strong> spinning offshore of the Southeast U.S. coast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As of 8 a.m. today<\/strong>, Tropical Storm Chantal<\/strong> remains a weak tropical system<\/strong>, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph<\/strong>. It may slightly strengthen<\/strong> over the next 24 hours to a 45 mph tropical storm<\/strong>, but wind shear<\/strong> should prevent it from intensifying further. A landfall<\/strong> along the South Carolina coast<\/strong> is possible by Sunday morning<\/strong>, before the storm tracks north<\/strong> toward Hampton Roads<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Though Chantal<\/strong> is expected to weaken over land<\/strong> and lose its tropical structure<\/strong>, it will still bring periods of heavy rain<\/strong> to coastal Virginia<\/strong>. Scattered downpours<\/strong> could begin by late Sunday<\/strong> and continue through Monday<\/strong>, with widespread rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches<\/strong>. The main threat<\/strong> will be localized flooding<\/strong>, especially in low-lying areas<\/strong> or places with poor drainage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By Tuesday<\/strong>, Chantal\u2019s remnants<\/strong> will be moving out of the region, giving way to a brief drying trend<\/strong>.
