Tropical Storm Chantal<\/strong> is now impacting Coastal South Carolina<\/strong>, especially Horry<\/strong> and Georgetown Counties<\/strong>, with a Tropical Storm Warning<\/strong> in effect through Sunday<\/strong>. As of Saturday evening<\/strong>, bands of tropical rain and thunderstorms<\/strong> are sweeping through Myrtle Beach<\/strong> and have pushed inland toward the Pee Dee region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Heavy downpours<\/strong> are causing quick ponding<\/strong> on roads, especially in urban and low-lying areas<\/strong>. As Chantal<\/strong> moves closer inland, wind and rainfall will intensify overnight near Georgetown County<\/strong>, putting Horry County<\/strong> squarely in the core impact zone<\/strong> with the strongest wind<\/strong>, heaviest rain<\/strong>, and isolated tornado risk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Rainfall totals<\/strong> are forecast between 3 to 5 inches (76 to 127 mm)<\/strong> across Horry<\/strong> and Georgetown Counties<\/strong>, while areas farther inland, including the border belt<\/strong> and Pee Dee<\/strong>, may receive 1 to 3 inches (25 to 76 mm)<\/strong>. A flood watch<\/strong> remains active for Horry County<\/strong> due to the risk of localized flooding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Coastal hazards<\/strong> are also intensifying. A high risk of rip currents<\/strong> is in place for the Grand Strand<\/strong>, with wave heights<\/strong> ranging between 3 to 6 feet (0.9 to 1.8 meters)<\/strong> through Sunday<\/strong>. Swimming conditions are extremely dangerous due to powerful currents<\/strong> and rough surf<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Winds<\/strong> along the Grand Strand<\/strong> are expected to stay sustained at 20\u201330 mph (32\u201348 km\/h)<\/strong>, with gusts reaching 35\u201345 mph (56\u201372 km\/h)<\/strong>. Inland, winds will be lighter but still gusty<\/strong>, with 10\u201320 mph (16\u201332 km\/h)<\/strong> sustained speeds and isolated gusts near 30 mph (48 km\/h)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Though the tornado risk<\/strong> remains low<\/strong>, it is not zero.
