A gradual <strong>rise in temperatures<\/strong> will continue throughout the upcoming week, pushing much of the state into <strong>even hotter conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday afternoon<\/strong>, strong to <strong>severe storms<\/strong> developed over the <strong>Sangre de Cristo Mountains<\/strong>, drifting <strong>east and southeast<\/strong> into the evening hours. While <strong>scattered showers<\/strong> also formed in <strong>Catron County<\/strong>, much of the <strong>precipitation<\/strong> evaporated before reaching the ground. <strong>Temperatures soared<\/strong> across <strong>New Mexico<\/strong>, surpassing those seen on <strong>Independence Day<\/strong>. Some <strong>isolated storms<\/strong> are still lingering in <strong>eastern New Mexico<\/strong> tonight, but they are expected to <strong>fade within a few hours<\/strong>. These systems are helping to <strong>increase moisture<\/strong> levels all the way into <strong>western parts<\/strong> of the state by <strong>Sunday morning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>More thunderstorms expected across New Mexico Sunday<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>By <strong>Sunday afternoon<\/strong>, expect <strong>showers and thunderstorms<\/strong> to <strong>intensify again<\/strong>, especially over the <strong>mountain ranges<\/strong>. Storms will <strong>initiate over the higher elevations<\/strong> early in the afternoon and then gradually <strong>drift east and southeast<\/strong>. <strong>Heavy downpours<\/strong> are forecast around the <strong>Ruidoso burn scar areas<\/strong>, particularly by <strong>12 PM<\/strong>, where the <strong>risk of flash flooding<\/strong> will be a significant concern. Additional <strong>storm activity<\/strong> is also forecast for the <strong>Gila region<\/strong> and other parts of <strong>western New Mexico<\/strong>. These storms are likely to <strong>dissipate by late Sunday night<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the rain potential, <strong>temperatures will remain extremely high<\/strong>. However, locations directly affected by <strong>rain and thunderstorms<\/strong> may experience a <strong>brief but noticeable cool down<\/strong> during the afternoon hours.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Monday brings similar heat, but with drier air in the west<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Looking ahead to <strong>Monday<\/strong>, the weather will <strong>mirror Sunday\u2019s pattern<\/strong>, though <strong>drier air<\/strong> will begin to <strong>filter into central and western New Mexico<\/strong>. A developing <strong>high-pressure system<\/strong> will start to take hold across the region after <strong>Monday<\/strong>, gradually ushering in <strong>more stable and drier conditions<\/strong>. While <strong>isolated showers and thunderstorms<\/strong> will still be possible\u2014especially over the <strong>mountain peaks<\/strong> and surrounding zones\u2014the overall <strong>rain chances<\/strong> will become more <strong>limited<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Temperatures across New Mexico<\/strong> will continue their <strong>upward trend<\/strong>, with <strong>daily highs<\/strong> potentially climbing into the <strong>upper 90s to low 100s (36\u201339 \u00b0C)<\/strong> in several locations by the <strong>middle of the week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stormier conditions are making their way back into New Mexico this Sunday, following a dry and hot Fourth of July.
