CHARLESTON, South Carolina<\/strong> \u2014 All tropical storm warnings<\/strong> have been canceled<\/strong> as Tropical Depression Chantal<\/strong> continues to weaken<\/strong> while moving inland across North Carolina<\/strong>, according to the National Hurricane Center<\/strong>.<\/p>\n As of 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time today, Sunday, July 7<\/strong>, the center of Chantal<\/strong> was positioned near latitude 34.4\u00b0 North and longitude 79.2\u00b0 West<\/strong>, approximately 80 miles west of Wilmington, North Carolina<\/strong>. The system is advancing northward at around 9 mph<\/strong>, a movement pattern that is expected to persist through the afternoon<\/strong>, before curving toward the northeast<\/strong> this evening<\/strong> and continuing in that direction into Monday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The maximum sustained winds<\/strong> have dropped to about 35 mph (56 km\/h)<\/strong>, with occasional stronger gusts<\/strong> still present. The tropical depression<\/strong> is gradually losing strength<\/strong>, and further weakening<\/strong> is forecast over the next 24 hours<\/strong>. By Monday<\/strong>, the system is projected to lose its tropical characteristics<\/strong>, evolving into a low-pressure trough<\/strong> over eastern North Carolina<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The minimum central pressure<\/strong> is estimated at 1007 mb (29.74 inches)<\/strong>, based on nearby surface observations<\/strong>.
