Published July 8, 2025 \u2013 10:30 a.m. ET<\/strong><\/p>\n From Tuesday, July 9, an intense heat wave will grip much of the western United States, with<\/strong> California<\/strong> at the epicenter of the event.<\/strong> According to the National Weather Service (NWS)<\/strong> and NOAA<\/strong>, a heat dome<\/strong> is expected to settle over the region, pushing temperatures well above 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong> across large portions of the state. Authorities have already issued heat advisories<\/strong> due to the threat to public health and infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Some of the most impacted counties will experience dangerously high heat levels<\/strong>, reaching the red or magenta HeatRisk categories<\/strong>, the highest alert levels issued by NOAA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Fresno<\/strong>, Kern<\/strong>, and Tulare<\/strong> counties will see scorching temperatures between 105\u00b0F and 110\u00b0F (40\u00b0C to 43\u00b0C)<\/strong>, under intense solar exposure<\/strong> and very low humidity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Riverside<\/strong> and Imperial<\/strong> counties, particularly in desert zones, are expected to peak at over 110\u00b0F (43\u00b0C)<\/strong>, putting these areas at extreme risk<\/strong> of heat-related illness.<\/p>\n The Sacramento<\/strong> and San Joaqu\u00edn Valleys<\/strong> will face several consecutive days<\/strong> of extreme heat, with elevated overnight lows<\/strong> that may prevent sufficient cooling during the night.<\/p>\n In northern California<\/strong>, Shasta<\/strong> and Tehama<\/strong> counties will be under severe risk<\/strong>, as hot, dry conditions<\/strong> elevate the danger of both heat exhaustion<\/strong> and wildfire outbreaks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The marine layer<\/strong> will help moderate temperatures along the coast. Cities like San Francisco<\/strong>, San Mateo<\/strong>, and Alameda<\/strong> will remain relatively cool, with daytime highs between 60\u00b0F and 75\u00b0F (15\u00b0C to 24\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In Marin County<\/strong> and the Sonoma coast<\/strong>, highs will stay below 80\u00b0F (27\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Even in Los Angeles<\/strong>, where coastal areas will benefit from the cooling influence of the Pacific<\/strong>, inland neighborhoods are forecast to reach above 90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The heat dome will not remain confined to California. Several other western U.S. states<\/strong> are also expected to sizzle<\/strong> under the expanding wave.<\/p>\n In Arizona<\/strong>, cities like Phoenix<\/strong> and Yuma<\/strong> could soar to 115\u00b0F (46\u00b0C)<\/strong>, with extreme heat warnings already in place, especially for urban and desert regions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Nevada<\/strong>, and particularly Las Vegas<\/strong>, will face daytime highs ranging between 110\u00b0F and 112\u00b0F (43\u00b0C to 44\u00b0C)<\/strong>, with heat alerts likely to continue through the weekend.<\/p>\n Interior areas of Oregon<\/strong>, Idaho<\/strong>, and Washington<\/strong> are expected to exceed 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>, particularly across agricultural zones<\/strong> and valleys<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Utah<\/strong> and New Mexico<\/strong> will see maximums between 103\u00b0F and 108\u00b0F (39\u00b0C to 42\u00b0C)<\/strong>, with heat risks highest in rural regions<\/strong> and outdoor recreation areas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Published July 8, 2025 \u2013 10:30 a.m. ET From Tuesday, July 9, an intense heat wave will grip much of the western United States, with California at the epicenter of the event.
