While <strong>Denver<\/strong> mostly experienced <strong>rain and thunder<\/strong>, surrounding areas were struck by <strong>destructive hail<\/strong> ranging in size from <strong>quarters to golf balls<\/strong>, with <strong>some stones as large as limes or medium hen eggs<\/strong>\u2014measuring <strong>2 inches (5 cm)<\/strong> in diameter.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Where the largest hail fell in Colorado<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Hailstorms hit a wide swath of the state<\/strong>, stretching from <strong>Denver<\/strong> to <strong>Pueblo<\/strong>, but the <strong>most intense impacts<\/strong> were concentrated in <strong>El Paso County<\/strong>, particularly around <strong>Colorado Springs<\/strong> and <strong>Manitou Springs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>southwestern Colorado Springs<\/strong>, near <strong>2 miles southwest of the city center<\/strong>, <strong>hailstones reached 2 inches (5 cm)<\/strong>\u2014<strong>the largest officially recorded<\/strong> on Sunday. Close behind, <strong>golf ball-sized hail<\/strong> fell <strong>3 miles southeast of Manitou Springs<\/strong>, measured at <strong>1.75 inches (4.4 cm)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Edgewater<\/strong>, in <strong>Jefferson County<\/strong>, and multiple locations in <strong>El Paso<\/strong>, like <strong>Falcon<\/strong>, <strong>Black Forest<\/strong>, and <strong>Aurora<\/strong>, reported <strong>hail between 1 and 1.5 inches (2.5 to 3.8 cm)<\/strong>\u2014comparable to <strong>ping pong balls<\/strong> and <strong>half dollars<\/strong>. In <strong>Monument<\/strong>, north of Colorado Springs, <strong>hail accumulation blanketed roads like snow<\/strong>, according to photos submitted by residents.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Most affected areas and hail size details<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>El Paso County<\/strong> was hit the hardest, with repeated reports of <strong>1 to 2-inch hail<\/strong> throughout the day in places like:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colorado Springs<\/strong>, including its <strong>southern and western sectors<\/strong>,<br \/>\n<strong>Falcon<\/strong> and its nearby neighborhoods (including <strong>3 miles north<\/strong> and <strong>3 miles northeast<\/strong>),<br \/>\n<strong>Black Forest<\/strong>, where multiple locations reported <strong>1.25 to 1.4-inch hail (3.2 to 3.6 cm)<\/strong>,<br \/>\nand <strong>Security<\/strong>, which also recorded <strong>quarter-sized hail<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Denver Metro Area<\/strong>, <strong>Edgewater<\/strong> saw the <strong>largest hail<\/strong> at <strong>1.5 inches (3.8 cm)<\/strong>, while <strong>Denver proper<\/strong>, <strong>Aurora<\/strong>, and <strong>Wheat Ridge<\/strong> all saw <strong>hail around 1 inch (2.5 cm)<\/strong>\u2014roughly <strong>quarter-sized<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To the <strong>northeast<\/strong>, <strong>Logan County<\/strong> also experienced <strong>hailfall<\/strong>, particularly <strong>5 miles north of Dailey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Severe weather outlook for Monday<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This <strong>storm system is not over<\/strong>. <strong>More thunderstorms<\/strong> are forecast to move through <strong>eastern Colorado<\/strong> on <strong>Monday<\/strong>, potentially bringing <strong>large hail<\/strong>, <strong>damaging winds<\/strong>, and even <strong>an isolated tornado<\/strong>.
