The <strong>National Meteorological Service (SMN)<\/strong> has issued an <strong>official alert<\/strong> regarding several overlapping phenomena expected to bring <strong>severe thunderstorms<\/strong>, <strong>hail<\/strong>, <strong>gusty winds<\/strong>, and <strong>localized flooding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Strong storms expected Thursday across Sonora, Chihuahua and Sinaloa<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On <strong>Thursday, July 10<\/strong>, <strong>heavy to very heavy downpours<\/strong> will dominate the weather across <strong>Sonora<\/strong>, <strong>Chihuahua<\/strong>, <strong>Durango<\/strong>, <strong>Sinaloa<\/strong>, <strong>Nayarit<\/strong>, and <strong>Jalisco<\/strong>, with expected rainfall amounts between <strong>2 and 3 inches<\/strong> (50\u201375 mm). The <strong>tropical wave number 10<\/strong>, moving across the <strong>western part of the country<\/strong>, will be the main driver of this moisture surge, enhanced by the <strong>Mexican monsoon<\/strong> currently active over the <strong>northwest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Other regions, including <strong>San Luis Potos\u00ed<\/strong>, <strong>Zacatecas<\/strong>, <strong>Aguascalientes<\/strong>, <strong>Guanajuato<\/strong>, <strong>Estado de M\u00e9xico<\/strong>, <strong>Puebla<\/strong>, <strong>Michoac\u00e1n<\/strong>, <strong>Colima<\/strong>, <strong>Guerrero<\/strong>, <strong>Oaxaca<\/strong>, <strong>Chiapas<\/strong>, and <strong>Veracruz<\/strong>, will see <strong>scattered thunderstorms with localized heavy rain<\/strong>, measuring around <strong>1 to 2 inches<\/strong> (25\u201350 mm).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lighter showers<\/strong> are expected across <strong>Coahuila<\/strong>, <strong>Nuevo Le\u00f3n<\/strong>, <strong>Tamaulipas<\/strong>, and most of the <strong>Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula<\/strong>, with rainfall totals under <strong>1 inch<\/strong> (5\u201325 mm). <strong>Baja California<\/strong> and <strong>Baja California Sur<\/strong> will see only <strong>spotty light rain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winds will intensify<\/strong> Thursday afternoon, especially along the <strong>Gulf of California<\/strong> and in <strong>Sonora<\/strong>, <strong>Chihuahua<\/strong>, and <strong>Coahuila<\/strong>, where gusts could reach up to <strong>45 mph<\/strong> (70 km\/h). Dust storms are possible in <strong>Baja California<\/strong> and <strong>Baja California Sur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Temperatures will remain high<\/strong>, particularly in <strong>Baja California<\/strong> and <strong>Sonora<\/strong>, where the mercury could top <strong>113\u00b0F (45\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Most of <strong>northern Mexico<\/strong>, including <strong>Chihuahua<\/strong>, is forecast to reach <strong>104\u2013113\u00b0F (40\u201345\u00b0C)<\/strong>, while <strong>coastal<\/strong> and <strong>southern states<\/strong> like <strong>Michoac\u00e1n<\/strong>, <strong>Guerrero<\/strong>, and <strong>Oaxaca<\/strong> could see highs in the <strong>mid to upper 90s\u00b0F (35\u201340\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Friday brings intense rainfall to Sonora and central highlands<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On <strong>Friday, July 11<\/strong>, <strong>the heaviest rainfall<\/strong> will focus on <strong>northeastern Sonora<\/strong> and <strong>western Chihuahua<\/strong>, where <strong>localized totals could exceed 6 inches (150 mm)<\/strong>. The interaction between the <strong>Mexican monsoon<\/strong>, <strong>upper-level cyclonic circulation<\/strong>, and <strong>tropical moisture<\/strong> from the <strong>Pacific and Gulf of Mexico<\/strong> will drive these extreme weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hidalgo<\/strong>, <strong>Estado de M\u00e9xico<\/strong>, <strong>Tlaxcala<\/strong>, <strong>Puebla<\/strong>, and <strong>Veracruz<\/strong> will also experience <strong>very heavy rain<\/strong>, with daily accumulations up to <strong>3 inches (75 mm)<\/strong>, increasing the risk of <strong>flash floods<\/strong> and <strong>mudslides<\/strong>, particularly in <strong>mountainous terrain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A wide band stretching from <strong>Nuevo Le\u00f3n<\/strong> to <strong>Chiapas<\/strong> will be affected by <strong>strong showers and scattered storms<\/strong>, with rainfall estimates between <strong>1 and 2 inches<\/strong> (25\u201350 mm). These storms may be accompanied by <strong>hail<\/strong> and <strong>frequent lightning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winds<\/strong> will remain strong in <strong>Sonora<\/strong>, <strong>Chihuahua<\/strong>, <strong>Coahuila<\/strong>, and along the <strong>Gulf Coast<\/strong>, with <strong>gusts between 40 and 45 mph (65\u201370 km\/h)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>High temperatures will persist, especially across <strong>northeastern Baja California<\/strong> and <strong>northern Sonora<\/strong>, where highs will again exceed <strong>113\u00b0F (45\u00b0C)<\/strong>. <strong>Southern states<\/strong> like <strong>Oaxaca<\/strong>, <strong>Campeche<\/strong>, and <strong>Yucat\u00e1n<\/strong> are likely to see <strong>highs around 95\u2013104\u00b0F (35\u201340\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Saturday: persistent thunderstorms and dangerous heat in the north<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>By <strong>Saturday, July 12<\/strong>, <strong>northeastern Sonora<\/strong> remains under the threat of <strong>intense rainfall<\/strong>, with totals again exceeding <strong>6 inches (150 mm)<\/strong> in isolated areas. <strong>Chihuahua<\/strong>, <strong>Coahuila<\/strong>, <strong>Durango<\/strong>, <strong>Sinaloa<\/strong>, <strong>Puebla<\/strong>, and <strong>Veracruz<\/strong> are also set to receive <strong>very heavy rainfall<\/strong> between <strong>2 and 3 inches (50\u201375 mm)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A second tropical wave<\/strong>, number 11, moving into the <strong>Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula<\/strong>, will bring <strong>increased storm activity<\/strong> to <strong>Quintana Roo<\/strong>, <strong>Campeche<\/strong>, and <strong>Yucat\u00e1n<\/strong>, although rainfall will remain more moderate than in the <strong>northwest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thunderstorms with heavy downpours<\/strong> will blanket much of <strong>central Mexico<\/strong>, from <strong>Jalisco<\/strong> and <strong>Colima<\/strong> to <strong>Ciudad de M\u00e9xico<\/strong> and <strong>Oaxaca<\/strong>, with storm totals reaching <strong>1 to 2 inches (25\u201350 mm)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baja California<\/strong> and <strong>Baja California Sur<\/strong> will continue to see <strong>minimal precipitation<\/strong>, though <strong>dusty conditions<\/strong> are possible due to <strong>wind gusts up to 45 mph (70 km\/h)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures will again soar in <strong>northeastern Baja California<\/strong> and parts of <strong>Sonora<\/strong>, <strong>Baja California Sur<\/strong>, and <strong>Chihuahua<\/strong>, where highs may surpass <strong>113\u00b0F (45\u00b0C)<\/strong>.
