Earlier in the afternoon, at 2:24 p.m.<\/strong>, the mercury hit 117\u00b0F (47.2\u00b0C)<\/strong>, already surpassing the previous July 9 record<\/strong> of 116\u00b0F (46.6\u00b0C)<\/strong> shared by both 2024<\/strong> and 1958<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This marks the second time this summer<\/strong> that Phoenix<\/strong> has reached at least 117\u00b0F (47.2\u00b0C)<\/strong>, reinforcing the brutal intensity of this year\u2019s desert heatwave<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Forecasters<\/strong> expect temperatures to slightly ease<\/strong> in the coming days as the high pressure ridge<\/strong> dominating Arizona<\/strong> begins to shift westward, moving closer to Southern California<\/strong>. Nevertheless, an extreme heat warning<\/strong> remains active through Thursday<\/strong> across most areas of Arizona<\/strong> situated below 4,000 feet<\/strong> elevation.
