KANSAS CITY, Mo.<\/strong> \u2014 Get ready for a stormy end to the workweek. Strong to severe thunderstorms<\/strong> are expected to develop Friday afternoon and evening as a cold front<\/strong> moves through the Kansas City area<\/strong>, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts<\/strong> and heavy downpours<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A few spotty showers<\/strong> may pop up by late morning<\/strong>, but the main threat arrives after 2 p.m.<\/strong>, when stronger storms<\/strong> are likely to develop. Some of these storms could turn severe<\/strong>, with gusty winds<\/strong> being the primary concern. While the chance of a tornado is very low<\/strong>, it\u2019s not entirely off the table.<\/p>\n It\u2019s going to be another hot and humid<\/strong> day, with highs reaching around 91\u00b0F (33\u00b0C)<\/strong> and a heat index<\/strong> near 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Winds will be out of the south at 10 to 20 mph<\/strong>, helping feed the unstable atmosphere.<\/p>\n Skies will continue to cloud up overnight<\/strong>, and it\u2019ll stay warm and humid<\/strong> through the early morning hours. There\u2019s a slight chance<\/strong> for a shower or thunderstorm<\/strong>, especially in eastern Kansas<\/strong> and northwest Missouri<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Lows will only dip to around 75\u00b0F (24\u00b0C)<\/strong> with southerly winds<\/strong> continuing at 10 to 20 mph<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Saturday brings a bit of a break from the intense heat. A lingering morning shower<\/strong> is possible, but most of the day will be mostly cloudy<\/strong> with lower storm chances<\/strong>. Highs will top out near 84\u00b0F (29\u00b0C)<\/strong>, but humidity will keep things feeling muggy.
