CHICAGO<\/strong> \u2014 A wave of scattered thunderstorms<\/strong> is moving through the Chicago area<\/strong> Thursday night, bringing heavy rain<\/strong>, gusty winds<\/strong>, and the potential for hail<\/strong> as part of a larger system triggering severe weather alerts<\/strong> across northern Illinois<\/strong>.<\/p>\n ABC7 meteorologists<\/strong> have issued an AccuWeather Alert<\/strong> for both Thursday<\/strong> and Friday<\/strong>, as the region remains under threat for localized flash flooding<\/strong> and damaging storms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A Flood Watch<\/strong> has been issued for a wide swath of the region\u2014including Cook<\/strong>, DuPage<\/strong>, DeKalb<\/strong>, Kane<\/strong>, Kendall<\/strong>, McHenry<\/strong>, and Will counties<\/strong>\u2014and will remain in effect until 7 a.m. Friday<\/strong>. The primary concern overnight is excessive rainfall<\/strong>, which could overwhelm storm drains and lead to flash flooding<\/strong> in some neighborhoods.<\/p>\n A Severe Thunderstorm Warning<\/strong> was briefly in effect for LaSalle County<\/strong> until 12:30 a.m. Friday<\/strong>, but that has since expired, along with other warnings issued earlier in the evening. Still, forecasters say the risk isn\u2019t over.<\/p>\n The Storm Prediction Center<\/strong> placed most of the Chicago metro<\/strong> under a Level 1 (Marginal Risk)<\/strong> for severe storms on Thursday<\/strong>, with that risk increasing to Level 2 (Slight Risk)<\/strong> for Friday<\/strong>. The setup brings the potential for heavy downpours<\/strong>, wind gusts over 50 mph<\/strong>, hail<\/strong>, and even a brief, isolated tornado<\/strong>, though the tornado threat remains low.<\/p>\n While this initial system is expected to move out by Friday morning<\/strong>, another round of thunderstorms<\/strong> is forecast to develop by Friday evening<\/strong>, possibly impacting the evening commute and outdoor plans.<\/p>\n The Chicago White Sox<\/strong> were forced to postpone their game against the Cleveland Guardians<\/strong> Thursday due to rain. The teams will now play a doubleheader<\/strong> on Friday<\/strong> at 2:10 p.m.<\/strong> and 7:10 p.m.<\/strong> at Guaranteed Rate Field<\/strong>.
