Southeast Michigan<\/strong> is heading into a steamy and stormy weekend<\/strong>, as summer heat intensifies and the chance of strong to severe thunderstorms<\/strong> looms over the region.<\/p>\n Temperatures are on the rise, with highs expected to reach close to 90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong> by the weekend. Meanwhile, storm chances will be a constant presence, especially from Friday<\/strong> evening through Saturday night<\/strong>.<\/p>\n After a mild night with lows in the mid-60s\u00b0F (around 18\u00b0C)<\/strong> under partly cloudy skies, Friday<\/strong> will bring a noticeable uptick in heat. Daytime highs will climb into the upper 80s\u00b0F (31\u00b0C)<\/strong> across the Detroit metro area<\/strong>, setting the stage for possible late-day thunderstorms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The severe weather risk<\/strong> on Friday<\/strong> is categorized as slight<\/strong>\u2014level two out of five<\/strong>\u2014mainly for areas south of I-69<\/strong>, with more limited risks farther north.<\/p>\n Two scenarios are in play for Friday\u2019s storm activity. In one, the strongest storms stay primarily to the west and north<\/strong>, barely clipping the Thumb region<\/strong> in the late afternoon and evening. This would leave much of Metro Detroit<\/strong> relatively dry.<\/p>\n In the second scenario, storms take a more widespread track, sweeping through a large portion of southeast Michigan<\/strong> with heavy rain<\/strong> and gusty winds<\/strong>. If that happens, storm conditions<\/strong> could linger across the region until around 11 p.m.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Outside of the storm threat, the evening will be partly cloudy, with overnight temperatures near 70\u00b0F (21\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Saturday<\/strong> will be the hottest day of the week<\/strong>, with highs again pushing 90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong>. The heat index<\/strong> could make it feel even warmer, likely landing in the mid-90s\u00b0F (35\u00b0C)<\/strong> during peak afternoon hours.<\/p>\n Storms are expected to hold off through much of the day, with sunshine dominating<\/strong>. But by the evening<\/strong>, conditions become more unstable. The combination of heat<\/strong> and high humidity<\/strong> will fuel another round of potential strong to severe thunderstorms<\/strong>, likely developing sometime after sunset and possibly continuing into the overnight hours.<\/p>\n Overnight lows will remain on the warm side, settling around 70\u00b0F (21\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The weekend wraps up with more summer heat<\/strong> and lingering storm chances. Thunderstorms<\/strong> may still be moving through the area on Sunday morning<\/strong>, with another chance for pop-up storms in the afternoon<\/strong>. Temperatures will ease slightly, topping out in the mid-80s\u00b0F (29\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Expect lows to dip to the mid-60s\u00b0F (18\u00b0C)<\/strong> by nightfall.<\/p>\n The hot, sticky pattern<\/strong> isn\u2019t going anywhere fast. Forecast models suggest temperatures will remain in the upper 80s to near 90\u00b0F (31\u201332\u00b0C)<\/strong> well into next week.
