Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac predicts a warmer, drier autumn for Montana<\/strong><\/p>\n As we move through the peak of summer, the so-called Dog Days<\/em> are making their presence felt across Montana<\/strong>. Temperatures are running high, river levels are dropping, and wildfire danger is on the rise \u2014 all typical for this time of year. But looking ahead, fall 2025<\/strong> might not bring the cooldown many are waiting for.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to the Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac<\/strong>, this year\u2019s autumn season is expected to be warmer than usual<\/strong> across most of the state, and in some areas, even drier<\/strong> than normal. That\u2019s especially true for western Montana<\/strong>, where above-average temperatures and below-average rainfall could extend fire season well into the fall<\/strong> \u2014 a growing concern for residents and land managers alike.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Further east, it\u2019s a different story. While eastern Montana<\/strong> is also expected to see warmer temperatures<\/strong>, it could also receive more rain than normal<\/strong> during the fall months. That moisture could be a welcome development for parts of the state that have been dealing with ongoing drought conditions<\/strong>, especially in the agricultural regions along the Hi-Line<\/strong> and into southeastern Montana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The trend isn\u2019t limited to Montana. Much of the western U.S.<\/strong> is forecast to experience a warmer-than-average fall<\/strong>, keeping summer-like conditions in place longer than usual. For gardeners and farmers<\/strong>, that means more uncertainty \u2014 and for anyone tracking the start of football season<\/strong>, it might mean not having to reach for the heavier layers just yet.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Some may see a silver lining: flowers and pumpkins<\/strong> may not need to be covered for frost protection until later in the season, and those first chilly mornings might arrive a few weeks behind schedule. But in a state known for its fast-changing weather<\/strong>, it’s always smart to stay alert.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Montana<\/strong>, often called Big Sky Country<\/strong>, has seen its share of record-setting weather events.
