California<\/strong> is bracing for what could be the hottest day of the year so far<\/strong>, as a prolonged heat wave<\/strong> intensifies across the Sacramento Valley<\/strong> and much of Northern California<\/strong>. Temperatures on Friday<\/strong> are expected to soar to dangerous levels<\/strong>, with Redding<\/strong> forecast to reach a blistering 110\u00b0F (43\u00b0C)<\/strong> and Sacramento<\/strong> not far behind at 105\u00b0F (40.5\u00b0C)<\/strong> \u2014 the highest readings since last summer.<\/p>\n While the Bay Area<\/strong> will escape the worst of the heat thanks to a steady marine breeze<\/strong>, the inland areas<\/strong> are still facing well-above-average warmth<\/strong>, with temperatures climbing into the 90s (32\u201337\u00b0C)<\/strong> and possibly hitting 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong> in spots like Livermore<\/strong>, Concord<\/strong>, Antioch<\/strong>, Brentwood<\/strong>, and Vacaville<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The National Weather Service<\/strong> has extended a heat advisory<\/strong> for the northern Sacramento Valley<\/strong> through 11 p.m. Monday<\/strong>, as triple-digit temperatures show no signs of letting up. Overnight conditions won\u2019t bring much relief either \u2014 lows in Redding<\/strong> and Chico<\/strong> will only dip into the 70s (21\u201326\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A separate advisory is also in effect for the San Joaquin Valley<\/strong>, running from Friday morning through Tuesday night<\/strong>, where highs could reach up to 105\u00b0F (40.5\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Lake County<\/strong> and the interior regions of Mendocino and Humboldt counties<\/strong> are expected to see similar extremes. In Ukiah<\/strong>, the mercury could top out at 105\u00b0F (40.5\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Even the Sierra Nevada<\/strong> won’t escape the blast of heat \u2014 Lake Tahoe<\/strong> is expected to reach 90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong> over the weekend, marking its hottest stretch since July 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n While much of the state swelters, San Francisco<\/strong> will remain relatively mild thanks to a strong onshore breeze<\/strong>. By midday Thursday, Ocean Beach<\/strong> was stuck in the upper 50s (14\u201315\u00b0C)<\/strong>, while the Mission District<\/strong> was basking in the low 70s (21\u201323\u00b0C)<\/strong> \u2014 a pattern that will likely repeat on Friday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Evening winds should strengthen, helping to drop temperatures into the 50s (10\u201313\u00b0C)<\/strong> overnight, except at higher elevations. By Saturday<\/strong>, winds will shift out of the south, gusting up to 25 mph<\/strong> in coastal neighborhoods like Sunset<\/strong> and Richmond<\/strong>, keeping daytime highs in the low 60s (15\u201317\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n East of Twin Peaks<\/strong>, skies will clear earlier, and highs will climb into the mid- to upper 60s (18\u201320\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Sunday<\/strong> is expected to bring similar conditions, with slightly more morning fog<\/strong> and lows again in the mid-50s (12\u201313\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Much of the North Bay<\/strong> will wake up to hazy skies<\/strong> Friday, the result of smoke from distant wildfires. Despite the haze, sunshine will filter through and push highs into the mid-80s (29\u00b0C)<\/strong> in Mill Valley<\/strong>, Vallejo<\/strong>, and Petaluma<\/strong>, with San Rafael<\/strong> and Napa<\/strong> climbing into the upper 80s (31\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Farther inland, Santa Rosa<\/strong>, Sonoma<\/strong>, and St. Helena<\/strong> will sizzle in the mid-90s (35\u00b0C)<\/strong>, while Fairfield<\/strong> and Vacaville<\/strong> could brush up against 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>. On the coast, fog and sun<\/strong> will battle it out, keeping beach temperatures in the 60s (16\u201320\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Lows overnight will range from the mid-50s to low 60s (13\u201317\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Saturday<\/strong> will bring some relief, with south-southwesterly winds<\/strong> cooling most areas by about 5 to 10 degrees<\/strong>, knocking inland highs back into the 80s to low 90s (27\u201333\u00b0C)<\/strong>. A deeper marine layer<\/strong> on Sunday<\/strong> will bring broader cooling, except in the northern Napa Valley<\/strong> and eastern Solano County<\/strong>, where highs will still reach the upper 80s to mid-90s (31\u201335\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Residents in the East Bay<\/strong> will continue to deal with hazy skies<\/strong> Friday, especially east of the Caldecott Tunnel<\/strong>, where air quality<\/strong> could degrade to moderate or worse<\/strong>. Still, most of the region will see plenty of sunshine.<\/p>\n Highs will hover in the 70s to mid-80s (21\u201329\u00b0C)<\/strong> near the bay, and climb into the upper 80s to low 90s (31\u201333\u00b0C)<\/strong> in Martinez<\/strong> and the Lamorinda<\/strong> area. Inland valleys could easily hit mid-90s to low 100s (35\u201338\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Evening breezes<\/strong> from the southwest will gust to about 15 mph<\/strong>, helping to cool things down slightly overnight to the mid-50s to low 60s (13\u201316\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Saturday<\/strong> may bring a bit of morning fog<\/strong>, especially near the Berkeley Hills<\/strong>, followed by a modest cool-down<\/strong>. Daytime highs will fall back to the 70s to low 80s (21\u201327\u00b0C)<\/strong> near the water and upper 80s to mid-90s (31\u201335\u00b0C)<\/strong> further inland. Sunday<\/strong> looks similar, with slightly cooler highs and widespread morning cloud cover<\/strong>. Nights will remain comfortably cool in the mid- to upper 50s (13\u201315\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Friday brings a sharp contrast<\/strong> between foggy coastal zones<\/strong> and much warmer inland areas along the Peninsula<\/strong>. Beaches will struggle to get out of the upper 50s to low 60s (14\u201317\u00b0C)<\/strong>, while the bay shoreline<\/strong> sees highs in the mid-70s to mid-80s (24\u201329\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Foothill towns<\/strong> like Woodside<\/strong> will flirt with 90\u00b0F (32\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-50s (12\u201313\u00b0C)<\/strong> with patchy fog<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Saturday\u2019s<\/strong> moderate southerly winds<\/strong> will keep the coastline foggy and cool<\/strong>, with gusts up to 25 mph<\/strong>. Inland, however, it will stay sunny and warm<\/strong>, with South San Francisco<\/strong> in the upper 60s (20\u00b0C)<\/strong> and Redwood City<\/strong> in the mid-80s (29\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Sunday<\/strong> should follow a similar pattern, though the morning fog<\/strong> may become more widespread. Overnight lows will remain in the mid-50s (13\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In the South Bay<\/strong>, Friday promises to be another hot one<\/strong>, with the southern Santa Clara Valley<\/strong> hitting the mid-90s (35\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Cities like Palo Alto<\/strong>, Mountain View<\/strong>, and Milpitas<\/strong> will be slightly cooler, in the upper 80s to low 90s (31\u201333\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Down by the coast, Santa Cruz<\/strong> will enjoy a milder day \u2014 low 70s (21\u201322\u00b0C)<\/strong> at the beach and low 80s (27\u00b0C)<\/strong> near UC Santa Cruz<\/strong>. Scotts Valley<\/strong> should top out in the mid-80s (29\u00b0C)<\/strong>, while Boulder Creek<\/strong> and Ben Lomond<\/strong> hit the upper 80s to low 90s (31\u201333\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Overnight lows will stay near 60\u00b0F (16\u00b0C)<\/strong> in the valley, but vary more widely in the mountains<\/strong>, from the 50s (12\u201313\u00b0C)<\/strong> in lower elevations to near 70\u00b0F (21\u00b0C)<\/strong> at the highest peaks.<\/p>\n Cooling is on the way<\/strong> this weekend for Santa Cruz County<\/strong>, with winds off Monterey Bay<\/strong> ushering in denser fog<\/strong> and cooler air. Highs will fall<\/strong> to the 60s at the beaches (16\u201320\u00b0C)<\/strong> and 70s to low 80s (21\u201327\u00b0C)<\/strong> in the hills. Meanwhile, the Santa Clara Valley<\/strong> will stay warm and dry<\/strong>, with highs still in the 80s (27\u201330\u00b0C)<\/strong> thanks to downslope winds.
