The National Weather Service has issued urgent alerts for San Saba<\/strong>, Llano<\/strong>, Burnet<\/strong>, Menard<\/strong>, Gillespie<\/strong>, and Kerr Counties<\/strong>, where rivers are rising rapidly and roads have become impassable in multiple locations. The Llano River has already reached moderate flood stage<\/strong>, and forecasters expect it to rise above 18 feet<\/strong> within hours \u2014 a significant jump that hasn\u2019t been seen since the devastating floods of October 2018.<\/p>\n In response to the worsening conditions, Travis County officials<\/strong> have closed Lake Travis<\/strong> to all recreational use. The only exceptions are for emergency operations. The ban extends to other waterways throughout the Austin area<\/strong>, including Lady Bird Lake<\/strong>, Lake Austin<\/strong>, Barton Creek<\/strong>, and Bull Creek<\/strong>, and will remain in effect until at least noon Monday.<\/p>\n Water levels at Lake Travis<\/strong> have risen dramatically \u2014 climbing nearly 18 feet<\/strong> between July 4<\/strong> and July 6<\/strong>, from 637.56 feet<\/strong> to 655.35 feet<\/strong>. Officials from the Lower Colorado River Authority<\/strong> have opened floodgates at Wirtz<\/strong> and Starcke Dams<\/strong> to handle the surge of runoff but say the Mansfield Dam<\/strong> will remain closed for now, with Lake Travis expected to hold the excess water.<\/p>\n Flash flooding is already underway across multiple areas. In San Saba County<\/strong>, up to 10 inches<\/strong> of rain has fallen, with the San Saba River<\/strong> swelling fast. A flash flood emergency remains in effect near the community of Bend<\/strong>, where rainfall totals reached 8 inches overnight.<\/p>\n In Burnet<\/strong> and Llano Counties<\/strong>, 1 to 5 inches of rain have already been recorded, and forecasters are warning of more heavy downpours today \u2014 potentially reaching 4 inches per hour<\/strong> in isolated areas. Menard<\/strong>, Gillespie<\/strong>, and Kerr Counties<\/strong> are also seeing river flooding and soaked ground, with conditions expected to worsen through the morning.<\/p>\n This week\u2019s flooding has taken a staggering human toll. At least 129 people have died<\/strong> across Central Texas<\/strong>, including 75<\/strong> in Kerr County<\/strong> alone. Emergency officials have confirmed 9 deaths<\/strong> in Travis County<\/strong>, 8 in Kendall<\/strong>, 5 in Burnet<\/strong>, and 3 in Williamson<\/strong>. Rescue operations are ongoing, and more than 30 people are still unaccounted for<\/strong>, including 10 children<\/strong> from Camp Mystic<\/strong>, located on the Guadalupe River<\/strong> in Hunt, Texas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Swift water teams in Travis County<\/strong> have carried out at least 25 rescues<\/strong> since Saturday, while emergency crews in Burnet County<\/strong> completed 18 rescues<\/strong> overnight.
