With oppressive humidity and intense sunshine, heat stress will remain a concern across <strong>urban centers<\/strong>, <strong>rural communities<\/strong>, and <strong>inland parishes<\/strong> alike.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Today\u2019s forecast: one last round of classic summer heat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday<\/strong> will mark the <strong>final day of the familiar July heat pattern<\/strong> before a shift in the atmosphere unfolds. <strong>Highs will top out in the mid-90s\u00b0F (around 35\u00b0C)<\/strong> under a mix of sun and building clouds. As <strong>deep tropical moisture surges inland from the Gulf of Mexico<\/strong>, scattered <strong>afternoon thunderstorms<\/strong> may begin to pop up, particularly <strong>after 2 p.m.<\/strong> Localized downpours are possible, especially near <strong>I-10<\/strong> and coastal parishes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overnight<\/strong>, expect very <strong>warm and muggy conditions<\/strong>, with <strong>lows hovering in the mid to upper 70s\u00b0F (24\u00b0C\u201326\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Rain chances will steadily increase, setting the stage for what could become a prolonged wet pattern.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flood watch issued for southern Louisiana through Friday night<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>National Weather Service<\/strong> has placed a large portion of <strong>south Louisiana<\/strong> under a <strong>Flood Watch<\/strong> from <strong>Wednesday afternoon through late Friday night<\/strong>. Affected areas include <strong>East Baton Rouge<\/strong>, <strong>West Baton Rouge<\/strong>, <strong>Ascension<\/strong>, <strong>Assumption<\/strong>, <strong>Iberville<\/strong>, <strong>East Feliciana<\/strong>, <strong>Livingston<\/strong>, <strong>Pointe Coupee<\/strong>, <strong>St. Helena<\/strong>, <strong>St. James<\/strong>, <strong>Tangipahoa<\/strong>, and <strong>West Feliciana Parishes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The combination of <strong>tropical humidity<\/strong>, <strong>slow-moving showers<\/strong>, and <strong>training thunderstorms<\/strong> could result in <strong>rainfall totals between 2 to 5 inches (50\u2013125 mm)<\/strong> through the weekend. However, <strong>locally heavier rainfall nearing 10 inches (254 mm)<\/strong> will be possible, especially near the <strong>coast<\/strong> and <strong>southernmost parishes<\/strong>, where <strong>rain bands<\/strong> may stall and repeatedly pass over the same zones.<\/p>\n<p>Flash flooding will be a <strong>real concern<\/strong>, particularly in <strong>urbanized areas<\/strong>, <strong>low-lying roads<\/strong>, and <strong>regions with poor drainage<\/strong>. This tropical setup is notoriously unpredictable, and <strong>the exact location of the heaviest rainfall remains uncertain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tropical disturbance approaching the Gulf Coast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <strong>broad low-pressure system<\/strong>\u2014currently drifting westward across the <strong>Florida Panhandle<\/strong>\u2014continues to produce <strong>disorganized thunderstorms<\/strong> primarily on its <strong>southern flank<\/strong>. This <strong>tropical disturbance<\/strong> is expected to move into the <strong>northeastern to north-central Gulf of Mexico<\/strong> later tonight or Thursday. If it stays <strong>far enough offshore<\/strong>, <strong>environmental conditions over the Gulf appear marginally favorable<\/strong> for the system to become better organized.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>tropical depression<\/strong> could still form <strong>before landfall<\/strong> late this week, but whether or not the system develops a name, its <strong>moisture plume<\/strong> will significantly impact <strong>southern Louisiana\u2019s weather<\/strong>.
