Heavy heat, tropical moisture and possible flooding ahead in Louisiana<\/strong><\/p>\n Wednesday, July 16, 2025 \u2013 Baton Rouge, Louisiana<\/strong> \u2013 A Heat Advisory<\/strong> is currently in effect from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time<\/strong> across a broad portion of southeastern Louisiana<\/strong>, covering East Baton Rouge<\/strong>, West Baton Rouge<\/strong>, Ascension<\/strong>, Iberville<\/strong>, East Feliciana<\/strong>, Livingston<\/strong>, Pointe Coupee<\/strong>, St. Helena<\/strong>, St. James<\/strong>, Tangipahoa<\/strong>, and West Feliciana Parishes<\/strong>, as well as Amite<\/strong> and Wilkinson Counties<\/strong> in Mississippi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Feels-like temperatures will soar between 105\u00b0F and 110\u00b0F (40\u00b0C\u201343\u00b0C)<\/strong> during the afternoon hours. With oppressive humidity and intense sunshine, heat stress will remain a concern across urban centers<\/strong>, rural communities<\/strong>, and inland parishes<\/strong> alike.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Today\u2019s forecast: one last round of classic summer heat<\/strong><\/p>\n Wednesday<\/strong> will mark the final day of the familiar July heat pattern<\/strong> before a shift in the atmosphere unfolds. Highs will top out in the mid-90s\u00b0F (around 35\u00b0C)<\/strong> under a mix of sun and building clouds. As deep tropical moisture surges inland from the Gulf of Mexico<\/strong>, scattered afternoon thunderstorms<\/strong> may begin to pop up, particularly after 2 p.m.<\/strong> Localized downpours are possible, especially near I-10<\/strong> and coastal parishes.<\/p>\n Overnight<\/strong>, expect very warm and muggy conditions<\/strong>, with lows hovering in the mid to upper 70s\u00b0F (24\u00b0C\u201326\u00b0C)<\/strong>. Rain chances will steadily increase, setting the stage for what could become a prolonged wet pattern.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Flood watch issued for southern Louisiana through Friday night<\/strong><\/p>\n The National Weather Service<\/strong> has placed a large portion of south Louisiana<\/strong> under a Flood Watch<\/strong> from Wednesday afternoon through late Friday night<\/strong>. Affected areas include East Baton Rouge<\/strong>, West Baton Rouge<\/strong>, Ascension<\/strong>, Assumption<\/strong>, Iberville<\/strong>, East Feliciana<\/strong>, Livingston<\/strong>, Pointe Coupee<\/strong>, St. Helena<\/strong>, St. James<\/strong>, Tangipahoa<\/strong>, and West Feliciana Parishes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The combination of tropical humidity<\/strong>, slow-moving showers<\/strong>, and training thunderstorms<\/strong> could result in rainfall totals between 2 to 5 inches (50\u2013125 mm)<\/strong> through the weekend. However, locally heavier rainfall nearing 10 inches (254 mm)<\/strong> will be possible, especially near the coast<\/strong> and southernmost parishes<\/strong>, where rain bands<\/strong> may stall and repeatedly pass over the same zones.<\/p>\n Flash flooding will be a real concern<\/strong>, particularly in urbanized areas<\/strong>, low-lying roads<\/strong>, and regions with poor drainage<\/strong>. This tropical setup is notoriously unpredictable, and the exact location of the heaviest rainfall remains uncertain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tropical disturbance approaching the Gulf Coast<\/strong><\/p>\n A broad low-pressure system<\/strong>\u2014currently drifting westward across the Florida Panhandle<\/strong>\u2014continues to produce disorganized thunderstorms<\/strong> primarily on its southern flank<\/strong>. This tropical disturbance<\/strong> is expected to move into the northeastern to north-central Gulf of Mexico<\/strong> later tonight or Thursday. If it stays far enough offshore<\/strong>, environmental conditions over the Gulf appear marginally favorable<\/strong> for the system to become better organized.<\/p>\n A tropical depression<\/strong> could still form before landfall<\/strong> late this week, but whether or not the system develops a name, its moisture plume<\/strong> will significantly impact southern Louisiana\u2019s weather<\/strong>.
