But as of <strong>Thursday morning<\/strong>, forecasters have <strong>reduced the chances to 30 percent<\/strong>, calling development \u201cunlikely\u201d in the short term.<\/p>\n<p>Satellite data, radar imagery, and surface observations all point to a <strong>poorly organized low-pressure system<\/strong>, with <strong>thunderstorms and rain bands displaced well west of the system\u2019s broad center<\/strong>, the NHC noted in its latest update.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Little time left for Dexter to form<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While some minimal development is still possible over the next 12 to 24 hours, the system is expected to reach the <strong>Louisiana coast<\/strong> later today. Given its current state, <strong>forecasters say it&#8217;s increasingly unlikely that it will reach tropical depression status before making landfall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the weather threat is far from over. Whether or not Invest 93L earns the name <strong>Dexter<\/strong>, <strong>heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding<\/strong> remain the primary concerns across the <strong>north-central Gulf Coast<\/strong>\u2014including parts of <strong>Louisiana<\/strong>, <strong>Mississippi<\/strong>, and <strong>Alabama<\/strong>\u2014through <strong>Friday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rain, not wind, is the bigger threat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Forecasters emphasize that even without a formal storm classification, this system is capable of <strong>producing dangerous rain totals<\/strong>, particularly in <strong>low-lying or flood-prone areas<\/strong>. Temperatures across the Gulf states are currently hovering around <strong>86\u00b0F (30\u00b0C)<\/strong>, with high humidity amplifying the tropical feel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AccuWeather\u2019s lead hurricane expert, Alex DaSilva<\/strong>, told <em>Newsweek<\/em>, \u201cWe\u2019re closely watching this tropical rainstorm as it approaches <strong>Louisiana<\/strong>. Right now, the storm\u2019s center appears to be just <strong>southwest of Mobile, Alabama<\/strong>, but it\u2019s still disorganized. There\u2019s a small window for it to strengthen slightly before landfall, but that window is closing fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued earlier this week, DaSilva warned that <strong>flooding could become a major issue through the weekend<\/strong> as the system tracks inland: \u201cYou don\u2019t need a named storm to see real impacts. This is still a serious flooding risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A messy system with little structure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meteorologist Dylan Federico<\/strong>, writing on <strong>X<\/strong> Wednesday, offered a blunt take on the system\u2019s status: \u201cInvest #93L looks like a plate of scrambled eggs this morning on satellite. I thought it had a shot at becoming a depression yesterday, but it\u2019s a mess. A long way to go before it\u2019s named #Dexter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite its messy appearance, <strong>NHC forecasters will continue to monitor Invest 93L<\/strong> closely. As of now, they\u2019re maintaining a <strong>30 percent chance of cyclone formation within both the next 48 hours and the next seven days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three storms already named this season<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>2025 Atlantic hurricane season<\/strong> has already seen <strong>three named storms<\/strong>: <strong>Andrea<\/strong>, <strong>Barry<\/strong>, and <strong>Chantal<\/strong>. <strong>Chantal<\/strong> made headlines earlier this month for bringing <strong>widespread flooding to North Carolina<\/strong>.
