The latest readings show a <strong>significant increase<\/strong> caused by <strong>persistent heavy rainfall<\/strong> across <strong>eastern Kansas<\/strong>, <strong>west-central Missouri<\/strong>, and <strong>northwest Missouri<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MLDDA<\/strong> reports that <strong>several tributaries<\/strong> are reacting swiftly to this precipitation, with <strong>flash flooding<\/strong> already a serious concern throughout the <strong>Kansas City metropolitan area<\/strong>. <strong>Multiple flash flood warnings<\/strong> were issued <strong>Thursday morning<\/strong>, adding urgency to the evolving flood situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Downstream locations<\/strong> \u2014 including <strong>Napoleon<\/strong>, <strong>Waverly<\/strong>, and <strong>Miami<\/strong> \u2014 are expected to experience <strong>major river rises<\/strong>, with forecasts from the <strong>National Weather Service (NWS)<\/strong> indicating the <strong>Missouri River<\/strong> could reach a <strong>crest of 19.6 feet<\/strong> (5.97 meters) by <strong>Friday evening<\/strong>, well above the <strong>flood stage of 18 feet<\/strong> (5.49 meters). Overnight, water levels jumped from <strong>13 feet<\/strong> (3.96 meters) to <strong>18.32 feet<\/strong> (5.58 meters), a dramatic surge with more rain expected through the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>flood warning<\/strong> for the <strong>Missouri River<\/strong> was issued by <strong>NWS<\/strong> and will remain <strong>in effect from early Friday through late Sunday morning<\/strong>. Forecasts suggest the river may begin to <strong>drop back below flood stage<\/strong> by <strong>late Saturday morning<\/strong>, assuming no further significant rainfall alters projections.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Kansas<\/strong>, the situation on <strong>Indian Creek<\/strong> near <strong>State Line Road<\/strong> is stabilizing. The creek surged from <strong>10.33 feet<\/strong> (3.15 meters) Wednesday night to <strong>23.56 feet<\/strong> (7.18 meters) by <strong>8:15 a.m. Thursday<\/strong>, but is now <strong>beginning to recede<\/strong>.
