HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 A break from the oppressive summer heat<\/strong> is on the way for Friday<\/strong> as humid tropical air<\/strong> pushes into Southeast Texas<\/strong>, raising the chance of scattered showers<\/strong> and cooler daytime highs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n After days of highs nearing 100\u00b0F (38\u00b0C)<\/strong>, temperatures<\/strong> in the Houston metro<\/strong> are forecast to dip into the low 90s\u00b0F (32\u201334\u00b0C)<\/strong> by Friday<\/strong> and Saturday<\/strong>, offering some much-needed relief<\/strong>. While it won\u2019t be chilly<\/strong>, it certainly won\u2019t feel as blistering<\/strong> as earlier this week.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The arrival of tropical moisture<\/strong> means increased rain chances<\/strong>, especially along the Gulf Coast<\/strong> and eastern suburbs<\/strong>. Expect pockets of heavy rainfall<\/strong> to begin late Thursday night<\/strong> near the shoreline, slowly moving inland during the day on Friday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Umbrellas will be a must<\/strong> through Saturday<\/strong>, as waves of showers and thunderstorms<\/strong> continue to pass over the region. Downpours<\/strong> could intensify at times, especially in the southern half of the city<\/strong>, and isolated street flooding<\/strong> isn\u2019t out of the question.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Some rain may linger into Sunday<\/strong>, although storm activity should start to taper off<\/strong> by late in the weekend.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Meanwhile, a low-pressure system<\/strong> currently drifting through the Gulf of Mexico<\/strong> carries only a 10% chance<\/strong> of becoming a tropical depression<\/strong> or storm by Friday<\/strong>, according to the National Hurricane Center<\/strong>. But even without full development, it\u2019s expected to send repeated waves of moist air<\/strong> across the entire Gulf Coast<\/strong>, from Louisiana<\/strong> to Texas<\/strong>, through the next couple of days.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n That system is forecast to weaken<\/strong> as it moves west and likely disintegrates<\/strong> by the end of the weekend.
