A new severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Medicine Hat and the surrounding region this Friday afternoon, marking the second alert of this type in the past two weeks.
Environment Canada reports that atmospheric conditions are currently favourable for the development of intense thunderstorms. These unstable systems may generate damaging wind gusts, sizable hailstones and torrential rainfall.
According to the latest forecasts, thunderstorms are expected to intensify through the late afternoon and early evening hours.
The national meteorological service has also highlighted the potential appearance of funnel clouds, which could accompany some of these stronger storm cells in the region of southeastern Alberta.
