Severe storms expected between late Thursday and early Friday
A 4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Southeast Michigan, including the Metro Detroit area, as strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast to move through the region late tonight, Thursday, May 15, into the early hours of Friday, May 16.
The primary window for these storms is currently projected to be between midnight and 3:00 a.m., though some models suggest an earlier arrival is possible. Damaging winds are the main threat, while flooding, hail, and even isolated tornadoes remain less likely but still possible.
Residents of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and surrounding counties should stay alert, especially during the overnight hours.
Rain continues into Friday night and Saturday
A second round of rain showers is expected to develop late Friday night into Saturday morning. While some thunderstorm activity is possible, no severe weather is currently forecast with this second wave. However, forecast models remain inconsistent, so conditions may still evolve.
From summer-like warmth to cooler days ahead
Temperatures are hovering in the mid-80s °F (around 29-30 °C) both Thursday and Friday, bringing a summer preview to Southeast Michigan. But this brief spell of warmth will be short-lived, as highs dip into the 60s °F (around 16-18 °C) early next week, marking a significant drop and a return to below-average temperatures for mid-May.
