On Sunday evening, residents across North Middle Tennessee and South Kentucky should remain weather-aware, as a line of storms develops along a backdoor front—a frontal boundary pushing in from the northeast. The National Weather Service has placed parts of the region, including Nashville and areas east along the I-65 corridor, under a Marginal Risk (category 1 out of 5) for severe weather.
When and where storms are likely
The highest likelihood for storms is expected north of Interstate 40, primarily between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time on Sunday. While not all areas will see thunderstorms, the cells that do form could bring brief but intense bursts of weather before weakening a few hours after sunset.
What to expect from these storms
In the green-shaded risk area, storms could bring wind gusts topping 60 mph (96 km/h). While the chance of hail remains low, small hail cannot be completely ruled out. Importantly, tornadoes are not expected with this system.
As the evening progresses, storm activity will taper off, especially after nightfall, offering calmer conditions overnight.
