Hazardous conditions expected in the St. Cloud area
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne counties, as showers and thunderstorms are set to sweep through the St. Cloud area on the evening of Wednesday, June 12. While no official weather warning or watch had been declared as of 11 a.m., the National Weather Service (NWS) signaled that unstable atmospheric conditions may develop into severe weather.
Temperature drops and heavy rainfall on the radar
By 5 p.m., temperatures are expected to plummet to a low of 54°F (12°C), significantly cooler than average for mid-June in Central Minnesota. Winds are forecasted to blow at about 10 mph, accompanying an estimated 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, possibly concentrated over a short period. These conditions could lead to localized flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage.
Rock the Riverside in Sauk Rapids postponed due to storms
The anticipated storms have forced Sauk Rapids officials to postpone the June 12 Rock the Riverside concert. Originally scheduled for this evening, the outdoor live music event has now been rescheduled to Wednesday, September 4. Organizers have confirmed that the next Rock the Riverside show will go ahead as planned on June 19, weather permitting.
Residents in the St. Cloud region, including those commuting through downtown Sauk Rapids and along the Mississippi River, are advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions, especially during the evening commute and any outdoor activities planned for the night.
