EF-0 tornado confirmed by emergency officials
A tornado with peak winds of 85 mph (137 km/h) was officially confirmed by the Evansville/Vanderburgh County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). The EF-0 twister touched down Friday on the westside of Evansville, according to a statement shared via Facebook.
Path and areas affected
The tornado began its track along South Tekoppel Avenue and traveled northeast, leaving a trail of minor but widespread damage. Notably, the storm system uprooted several trees near Edgewood and Hillcrest, caused large tree limbs to snap near Hillcrest and Baker, and even took down a construction barricade near Indiana and 11th Street.
Meteorologist assistance acknowledged
The EMA also expressed gratitude to local weather spotters, including 14 First Alert Meteorologist Jeff Lyons, and to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah, for their field support and damage assessment efforts.
The confirmation of this EF-0 tornado follows multiple severe weather alerts issued last week across southwestern Indiana, reinforcing the importance of local meteorological collaboration and real-time observations during extreme weather events.
