Heat wave remains firmly in place across Central Indiana
Thursday, June 27, marks the fourth straight day of a relentless heat advisory blanketing Central Indiana, where temperatures are again expected to climb into the low 90s°F (about 32-34°C). But it won’t just feel warm—oppressive humidity is pushing the heat index dangerously close to 100°F (38°C), according to Aaron Updike, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
“Temperatures are rising rapidly this morning and will peak between 90°F and 92°F (32°C and 33°C) this afternoon,” said Updike. “Dew points in the low 70s°F (around 21-22°C) are adding significant humidity, making it feel much hotter than the actual air temperature. It’s going to be very uncomfortable—especially for those without access to air conditioning.”
The hottest window: Thursday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.
Heat will be at its most intense between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., when sunlight, minimal wind, and saturated air combine to deliver the peak of discomfort across Indianapolis, Bloomington, Muncie, and other parts of Central Indiana.
While a few scattered thunderstorms and showers may develop later in the day, most of the rain activity is likely to remain over northern counties. Precipitation chances hover around 30%.
