Mendoza is closing out a frigid week with the arrival of a rare weather event that hasn’t happened since 2010. According to the latest forecast, while Friday will remain cold but sunny, the period between Sunday, June 30 and Monday, July 1 could bring the lowest high temperature recorded in the area since 1960.
Both Friday and Saturday are expected to bring stable conditions, much like the last few days, with mostly clear skies and afternoon highs around 55°F (13°C). But beginning Saturday evening, a surge of southerly winds is expected to push into the region, triggering a sharp drop in temperatures.
Forecasters warn that this weather shift could cause daytime highs to plummet to just 39°F (4°C), potentially setting a 65-year record for the coldest high temperature ever registered during the winter season in urban Mendoza.
As the Southern Hemisphere’s fall comes to a close, the region is facing what could become a historic climate event in the heart of Cuyo.
