This weekend, conditions remain mostly dry and stable, according to the NWS office in Phoenix. Rain chances are limited to the far southern parts of the state, while Saturday’s high reached 107°F (41.6°C) in Phoenix, which is typical for early July.
Sunday marks the start of the heat surge
On Sunday, July 6, NWS forecasters expect a notable rise in temperatures, with a projected high of 111°F (43.8°C) for Phoenix, already climbing above seasonal norms.
Intensifying heat wave expected next week
A strong ridge of high pressure is expected to build over the region, leading to a steady increase in temperatures through the coming days. On Monday, July 7, the Phoenix area is forecast to hit 112°F (44.4°C), and by Wednesday, July 9, desert regions could see highs reaching 115°F (46.1°C).
Extreme Heat Watch in effect from Tuesday
An Extreme Heat Watch will take effect beginning Tuesday, July 8, and is expected to remain in place through at least Thursday, July 10. Heat risks will be especially dangerous during the afternoon hours, when conditions will be most intense.
