Hot and humid start to the week across Connecticut

Monday, July 8, unfolds with oppressive heat and high humidity across Connecticut, setting the stage for scattered storms later in the day. A dominant high-pressure system, which provided a dry and sunny weekend, is now giving way to an approaching frontal boundary, increasing the chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the state are expected to peak between the upper 80s and mid-90s (87–95°F / 31–35°C), with the most intense heat focused on inland communities. Although Monday won’t be a complete washout, localized downpours and gusty thunderstorms could interrupt the late-day hours.

Tuesday will likely bring more widespread clouds and scattered showers as the front gets closer, though again, periods of dry weather are still expected.

Regional Monday forecast for Connecticut

Shoreline (including Stamford, Bridgeport, New Haven, New London): Skies will be partly cloudy with periods of hazy sunshine. Expect temperatures ranging from 87 to 93°F (31–34°C) and a chance of isolated thunderstorms late in the day, especially along the I-95 corridor.

Inland (including Danbury, Waterbury, Greater Hartford, Windham): A hot and steamy afternoon ahead with highs climbing to 90–95°F (32–35°C). Scattered thunderstorms could develop in the late afternoon or early evening, especially near the Connecticut River Valley.

Litchfield Hills (including Torrington, Litchfield, Winchester): Expect partly cloudy skies with increasing humidity. Afternoon highs will reach 88–93°F (31–34°C), and late-day storms may move in from the west or northwest.

The heatwave pattern holds through much of the week, with elevated temperatures remaining in the 80s and 90s statewide.
