BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – With a heavy rainfall threat looming and concerns over localized flooding, several parishes in southeastern Louisiana are now providing free sandbags to help residents protect their homes and property. Distribution is already underway at various locations across East Baton Rouge, Livingston, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, and East Feliciana parishes.
East Baton Rouge Parish: multiple BREC park sites activated
Residents in East Baton Rouge Parish can access sandbags from several BREC park locations, including:
BREC Memorial Stadium on Foss Street, Cadillac Street Park, and Hartley-Vey Gardere Park. Other options include Alsen Park, Baker Park, Doyle’s Bayou Park, Lovett Road Park, Flannery Road Park, and Airline Highway Park.
All sites are self-service, and residents must bring their own shovels.
Livingston Parish: fire stations and schools prepared
Livingston Parish has designated a wide range of sandbag pickup points, from Denham Springs to Walker, Port Vincent, and Springfield. Locations include:
Government Drive, French Settlement Fire Department, and multiple Fire Protection District stations—including Districts 2, 4, and 9. South Fork Elementary and Sidney Hutchinson Park are also participating.
Look for signage and follow the drive-up instructions. Some stations may offer limited assistance, but you should plan to fill the bags yourself.
West Baton Rouge Parish: public parks and fire stations open
In West Baton Rouge Parish, residents can collect sandbags from parks like William & Lee, Rivault, Alexander, Erwinville, and Myhand. Additional locations include:
The South Winterville Water Tower, Lobdell Fire Station, and Addis Fire Station. Each site is self-serve, and residents should arrive prepared with shovels.
Iberville Parish: ID required at pickup sites
Iberville Parish will begin sandbag distribution by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. Residents must bring a valid photo ID to collect bags. Pickup points include:
St. Gabriel Town Hall, intersections like Bayou Paul Ln. & Rd., various old fire stations, and community centers in Maringouin, Grosse Tete, White Castle, and Bayou Goula. Other locations include the Iberville Parish Barn and the Ochsner medical facility.
East Feliciana Parish: call ahead for inmate-loaded sandbags
In East Feliciana Parish, sandbags are being distributed at the East Feliciana Parish Prison on Haynes Street in Clinton. Residents should call (225) 683-3313 in advance. Parish inmates will load sandbags directly into your vehicle, a service not offered in most other parishes.
Residents urged to prepare now
All sandbag stations are free, but most require residents to bring their own tools. The situation may evolve with changing weather conditions, and more pickup sites may be added in the coming hours.
