Stormy Sunday sets the stage for a soggy holiday
Sunday evening wrapped up with strong wind gusts, hail, and frequent lightning striking across parts of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. While some areas began drying out after sunset, storms persisted into the late evening hours especially in Southeast Georgia, where activity remained more intense and prolonged.
Rainfall totals stayed modest, with accumulations topping out around a quarter inch, but the atmosphere remained unstable, setting the tone for a humid and storm-prone start to the week ahead.
Sunday night forecast: humid, cloudy, and stormy
By midnight, temperatures will dip into the mid-70s (around 24°C), but humidity stays high. Winds, once breezy, will ease into a calm overnight pattern, under mostly cloudy skies. Isolated thunderstorms will continue across Southeast Georgia, while most of Northeast Florida sees conditions start to quiet down after sunset.
Memorial Day outlook: rain likely with afternoon thunderstorms
Memorial Day Monday won’t bring much relief. Afternoon thunderstorms are expected again, with rain chances between 30% and 60% across Florida and Georgia. Storms will likely peak in intensity through the afternoon and early evening, particularly around 6 PM, when showers could become widespread.
Temperatures during the day will remain above average, climbing into the mid to upper 80s (29–31°C) before the storms bring brief cooling.
The rest of the week: unsettled and wet
Looking past Memorial Day, rain and storm activity will continue to linger through the work week, keeping skies mostly cloudy to overcast with daily chances for thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon to early evening hours. The humidity and warm air mass fueling these storms will remain in place, making for a typical late May weather pattern in Florida.
Stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and expect frequent interruptions to outdoor plans throughout the week ahead.
