Wet weather expected through Friday across southern Wisconsin
A persistent rainy pattern is taking hold across Southern Wisconsin, beginning Tuesday night, with widespread showers likely and a 60–70% chance of precipitation. The heaviest rainfall is forecast from Tuesday evening into Wednesday, with a slight chance (20%) of rainfall totals exceeding 1 inch, especially south of the I-94 corridor.
From Wednesday through Friday, rain chances diminish slightly, with probabilities falling to 20–30%, although scattered showers are still expected as a slow-moving upper-level low keeps the region unsettled.
Below-average temperatures and hazardous beach conditions
A notable temperature drop will follow midweek, pushing highs well below seasonal norms. The cool air mass is tied to a persistent upper-level system, which will hover over the area through late week.
Winds off Lake Michigan will be particularly strong, especially from Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing dangerous beach conditions to lakeshore counties. There is a moderate swim risk due to strong currents and high waves. Caution is urged near piers, river mouths, and open shorelines. Anyone entering the water should be equipped with flotation devices.
Warmer and drier weather on the horizon for the weekend
While Wednesday night into Thursday brings some uncertainty, especially as new energy arrives from the central Plains, scattered showers or storms could persist into Friday. However, conditions are set to improve dramatically by the weekend.
By Sunday and into Monday, a high-pressure system will take hold, leading to dry skies and a temperature rebound into the upper 70s to low 80s (25–28 °C). Expect a sunny and comfortable start to the first week of June, ideal for outdoor plans across Madison and the rest of Southern Wisconsin.
