Strong storms clearing Saturday night across central North Carolina
RALEIGH, North Carolina — After a stormy Saturday, central North Carolina will experience a noticeable shift in weather conditions. Thunderstorms, which are moving eastward, are expected to clear out by late Saturday evening, allowing skies to clear overnight. Temperatures during the night will drop into the lower 50s Fahrenheit (around 10–12°C), providing a cool and calm start to Sunday.
Sunday outlook: Early sun, then scattered storms return
Sunday morning will begin with bright sunshine, especially across the Triangle region. However, a stalled front lingering near the North Carolina–South Carolina border could ignite isolated thunderstorms by the afternoon. While the Triangle may only experience spotty activity, the Sandhills are likely to see scattered storms through the second half of the day. Afternoon highs will hover in the lower 80s Fahrenheit (about 27–28°C), marking a pleasant but unstable weather pattern for the second half of the weekend.
Looking ahead: Summer warmth arrives midweek
As we move into the first full week of June, the atmosphere will begin to feel distinctly more like summer. Monday is forecast to remain mild with highs in the lower 80s°F (around 27°C). However, beginning Tuesday, sunny skies and rising temperatures will take hold. Afternoon highs are projected to approach 90°F (32°C) on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, delivering classic early summer heat to much of North Carolina.
Stay aware of evolving storm patterns through the weekend, especially if you’re located near the NC/SC border or in the Sandhills region, where storm coverage may be more active than in surrounding areas.
