Frost advisory active early Monday morning across upstate New York
A frost advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for several counties across New York, where clear skies and plummeting overnight temperatures will create favorable conditions for frost development.
Counties affected and timing
Residents in western and southern New York should prepare for cold early morning hours. The advisory schedule is as follows:
From 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. (Monday):
Cattaraugus County and Allegany County, including communities like Olean and Wellsville.
From 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. (Monday):
Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Steuben, Sullivan, Tioga, and Broome Counties.
Expected conditions and risk areas
Temperatures are forecast to dip to the mid-30s Fahrenheit, with some valley locations dropping to around 33°F (0.5°C). Under clear skies and light winds, these conditions will support the formation of frost, particularly in low-lying or sheltered spots.
Potential impacts
Frost can harm or destroy sensitive plants, especially flowers, vegetables, and tender shrubs. Any uncovered outdoor vegetation could be at risk if not adequately protected.
Precautionary measures
Residents in the affected regions are strongly encouraged to bring potted plants indoors and to cover exposed garden beds and other outdoor flora to reduce frost damage risk.
Stay updated through local weather bulletins and make necessary preparations overnight, especially in areas with vulnerable vegetation.
