Bumpy pattern expected over Arkansas starting Thursday
A dynamic and unsettled weather setup is unfolding over Arkansas this week, as a series of storm systems begin to take shape across the central United States.
Storms weakening overnight, but rain chances build
Tonight, storms currently to the west of Arkansas are expected to weaken as they approach, but a few may still retain some strength as they drift into the state late tonight. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, gusty winds and brief downpours may accompany any lingering cells.
Multiple rain events expected Thursday through the weekend
Beginning Thursday, a stalled boundary draped across the region, combined with several upper-level disturbances, will fuel repeated rounds of rain and thunderstorms through the weekend. It won’t be a continuous washout, but periods of steady rainfall and localized downpours are likely.
Western and northern Arkansas most affected
Western and northern portions of Arkansas are forecast to see the heaviest rainfall totals, where multiple inches of rain could accumulate by Sunday evening. While the risk for severe storms remains low, there is a slight chance for an isolated strong storm, especially near frontal zones or during the peak heating of the day.
A reminder on lightning safety
If you can hear thunder, you’re close enough to be struck by lightning. Residents across the state should remain weather aware, especially during outdoor activities later this week.
Stay tuned for continued updates from the Arkansas Storm Team as this active pattern evolves.
