A sudden rise in humidity marks a turning point

Wednesday brought the most humid and hottest conditions in the region since last year, with temperatures peaking in the upper 80s°F (around 31°C). It was the first time in 8 months that Northeast Ohio, including Cleveland, Akron, and Ashtabula, experienced such intense heat and moisture.

Air Quality Advisory in effect until midnight

An Air Quality Advisory remains in place through Wednesday night for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit Counties. Residents in these areas are expected to continue facing hazy skies and stagnant air, particularly through the late evening hours.

Overnight changes: clouds and first signs of rain

As Wednesday night progresses, cloud cover will thicken, especially west of I-71, with the chance of spotty showers developing in that corridor. Despite the clouds, the air remains muggy, and overnight lows will dip into the mid-60s°F (around 18°C).

Thursday: a cooler but stormier day takes shape

Rain begins in the late morning, accompanied by scattered thunderstorms into the afternoon. The heaviest rainfall is expected along and south of US 30, including portions of Wayne, Holmes, and Tuscarawas Counties. These areas may encounter localized flooding, especially where storms repeatedly impact the same zones.

Temperatures tomorrow will drop, with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s°F (around 24–26°C), roughly 10°F cooler than Wednesday’s peak.

Late Thursday into Friday: the most significant flooding risk

The main storm system arrives late Thursday night into early Friday morning, affecting the southern half of Northeast Ohio the most. This system is a slow mover, meaning persistent rain bands could lead to urban and small stream flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

On Friday, with daytime heating, additional thunderstorms may erupt. These storms will be scattered, but they will contribute to an already saturated landscape, increasing the flooding concern across the region.

Humidity relief and cooler weather on the horizon

Looking toward the weekend, humidity levels are expected to fall, offering a refreshing break from the current oppressive moisture. Temperatures will also trend slightly below average, hovering around 5°F cooler than normal as next week unfolds.
