NOAA Weather Radio service interruption in Central Texas

At the start of this week, all NOAA Weather Radio transmitters in Central Texas — including Austin and San Antonio — have gone off-air due to a scheduled software upgrade. This planned temporary outage affects a broad region and is anticipated to continue through Thursday.

Transmitter locations impacted

The following NOAA Weather Radio transmitters are currently offline:

Austin, Carrizo Springs, Del Rio, Dilley, D’Hanis, Gonzales, Kerrville, La Grange, Llano, San Antonio, Seguin, and Uvalde.

When service will resume

According to official updates, full functionality of all NOAA transmitters should return by Thursday, barring unexpected delays. Although no severe weather is forecast at the moment, isolated thunderstorms are possible Tuesday night and Wednesday, particularly across southern and central counties.

Where to get weather alerts in the meantime

Until NOAA Weather Radio is restored, residents in the Austin-San Antonio region are encouraged to use alternative methods to receive urgent weather alerts:

Television broadcasts

For Austin and Llano, tune into:

KEYE‑TV (CBS/Telemundo, Ch. 42)
KBVO (MyNetworkTV, Ch. 14)
KNVA (CW Austin, Ch. 49/54)
KVUE (Tegna, Ch. 4/33)
KXAN (Lin TV, Ch. 21/36)
KTBC / Fox 7 (Fox, Ch. 7)

For San Antonio, Uvalde, Kerrville, Seguin, and D’Hanis, use:

WOAI‑TV (NBC / The CW, Ch. 4)
KENS‑TV (CBS, Ch. 5)
KSAT‑TV (ABC, Ch. 12)
KMYS (Dabl, Ch. 35 – Kerrville)
KPXL‑TV (Ion, Ch. 26 – Uvalde)

Online platforms

Follow the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio via Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), and monitor real-time conditions and forecast discussions on the NWS website.

Local emergency departments also offer updates through:

Austin and Travis County websites
San Antonio and Bexar County channels

Mobile alerts and weather apps

Install or enable emergency alerts on your smartphone through apps such as:

The Weather Channel
AccuWeather

Sign up for local emergency notifications on:

Warn Central Texas
San Antonio’s emergency alert system
Your city or county website

This communication interruption is a reminder of the importance of multi-channel weather awareness, especially with unsettled weather patterns on the horizon in Central Texas.
