Rounds of rain return to North Texas
After a temporary break in precipitation, widespread rain is expected to return to Dallas on Wednesday, June 11, bringing a high risk of flooding, especially during the evening and overnight hours. Forecast models from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth show a 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms starting as early as 7 a.m., which may cause delays for morning commuters on major roads such as Interstate 35E and US Highway 75.
While early showers are expected to taper off by 10 a.m., additional rounds of rain will redevelop in the afternoon, becoming heavier and more organized after sunset. This late-day rain is forecast to be the most intense phase of the storm system.
Severe weather and flooding potential
The storm activity through Wednesday night into Thursday may lead to over an inch of rainfall at DFW International Airport, with isolated areas likely to receive more. Although the storms are mostly expected to remain sub-severe, damaging winds and small hail cannot be ruled out. The main threat, however, remains flash flooding, due to the slow movement of the storm system and already saturated soils across the Metroplex.
Localized urban flooding is possible in low-lying areas, especially near Trinity River, Bachman Lake, and poorly drained intersections in Downtown Dallas and Arlington.
