Warm, humid start across North Texas
Sunday, June 16, begins with muggy and unsettled conditions in North Texas, as two clusters of thunderstorms make their way from Oklahoma. The first round of storms is expected to arrive early in the morning, followed closely by a second wave. As these two systems interact, areas north of I-20, including Dallas, Plano, and Frisco, could see widespread rainfall through the early afternoon.
Scattered showers farther south
While the central and northern Metroplex will face a fairly high rain coverage, regions south of I-20—such as Waxahachie, Cleburne, and Corsicana—can expect more isolated showers. Though the severe weather threat remains low, some of the stronger cells could bring gusty winds and brief downpours, especially along major roadways like I-35 and US-75.
Temperatures and humidity levels
Despite the clouds and rain, temperatures will still climb into the low 90s °F (about 32–34 °C). Combined with very high humidity, the air will feel oppressive and sticky for most of the day. Heat index values may reach the upper 90s °F (36–37 °C) in the afternoon hours, especially if sunshine breaks through briefly in southern counties.
Quieter days ahead after Sunday
This Father’s Day event is expected to be the last widespread storm system for the week ahead. The rest of the workweek looks generally quiet, with only a few isolated thunderstorms possible, mostly during peak afternoon heating.
