One last sweltering day before the cooldown
This record-setting heat wave in Connecticut is reaching its final day, but intense heat remains in place. Highs will once again climb into the low to mid 90s (90–96°F / 32–36°C) across much of the state, with the heat index approaching 100°F (38°C) during the afternoon, especially in the inland areas.
Humidity remains sticky and uncomfortable, with dew points holding in the mid-60s°F (around 18–20°C). The hazy sunshine and partly filtered skies are doing little to ease the discomfort, even if moisture levels are just a touch lower than on Monday and Tuesday.
Scattered showers possible, but most stay dry
During the afternoon, isolated showers and perhaps a brief thunderstorm are possible, particularly inland. However, most of Connecticut will stay dry through the day.
Northwest winds will stay light, between 5 and 15 mph, providing some slight relief, though not enough to meaningfully cut through the heat.
Thursday brings relief: highs drop into the 70s
Thursday, June 26 will finally bring a dramatic change, with temperatures dipping into the low to mid 70s (21–24°C) and humidity levels falling sharply. Expect mostly cloudy skies and spotty showers, but the day is not expected to be a washout.
Even cooler Friday, then summer heat rebuilds
Friday, June 27 will remain cool and breezy, with afternoon highs struggling to reach 70°F (21°C)—a drop of nearly 30 degrees Fahrenheit (16°C) compared to the peak of this week’s heat.
But the heat isn’t gone for good: temperatures will gradually climb over the weekend, reaching into the 80s (27–30°C). Early signs suggest another heat wave could develop as July begins.
Wednesday’s regional forecast
Shoreline (including Stamford, Bridgeport, New Haven, New London): Hot, hazy, and humid with a light northwest breeze at 5–15 mph. Highs between 90 and 95°F (32–35°C).
Inland areas (Danbury, Waterbury, Greater Hartford, Windham): Still hot and humid, though less brutal than earlier in the week. Isolated afternoon showers, but many areas stay dry. Highs between 90 and 96°F (32–36°C).
Litchfield Hills (Torrington, Litchfield, Winchester): Hot and sticky with hazy sunshine. A scattered shower or thunderstorm is possible late in the day. Highs between 87 and 93°F (31–34°C).
