What to expect from the fall 2025 forecast in Louisiana

According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, Fall 2025 in Louisiana is shaping up to be warmer than usual, especially through September and October. The official start of fall arrives on Monday, September 22, with the autumnal equinox, but cooler temperatures won’t settle in right away across the Deep South.

Throughout September, Louisiana is expected to experience above-average warmth, with an average temperature around 79°F (26°C). That’s nearly 2 degrees higher than typical for this time of year. Rainfall in northern Louisiana will be below normal, averaging about 3.5 inches, roughly one inch lower than usual. Meanwhile, southern Louisiana will see near-normal precipitation.

The first half of September will likely bring hot, sunny weather, followed by scattered thunderstorms during the middle of the month. By the end of September, temperatures are expected to dip slightly, accompanied by sunny skies.

Looking at October, the early and late parts of the month are projected to be sunny and warm, while the middle weeks could bring showers and storm activity. Average temperatures will hover near 65°F (18°C), about one degree below normal, suggesting the first signs of real autumnal cooling by late October. Rainfall is expected to average 2.5 inches, with conditions drier across northern Louisiana and slightly wetter in the south.

So, if you’re in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, or Shreveport, expect summer-like warmth to linger well into mid-October, with a gradual shift toward cooler, crisper air by the end of the month.
