Monday, June 16 – A muggy start to the week across central Indiana

Tonight, mostly cloudy skies will dominate across central Indiana, with light northeast winds around 5 to 10 mph. The air will remain warm and slightly humid, with lows near 66°F (19°C). No significant rain is expected, but the persistent humidity will keep things sticky overnight.

Tuesday, June 17 – Spotty storms and rising heat

During the day on Tuesday, the weather remains unsettled, with spotty thunderstorms potentially flaring up in the early afternoon between 2 and 5 PM. While coverage will be limited, any isolated cells could produce brief downpours. Otherwise, expect a mix of sun and clouds, with highs around 85°F (29°C). Winds will stay light and variable, leaning gently out of the east.

Tuesday night, a few lingering showers or isolated storms could hang around after 8 PM, but most of the region will stay quiet, under mostly cloudy skies. Overnight temperatures will remain mild, with lows near 68°F (20°C) and light southeast breezes.

Wednesday, June 18 – Stronger storm system approaches

The storm threat ramps up on Wednesday as a stronger weather system moves in. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms starting late morning, with coverage becoming more widespread after 2 PM. Some storms could become strong to severe, bringing the risk of gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Highs will reach the mid 80s°F (around 29°C), with winds from the west-southwest at 10 to 15 mph, gusting up to 20 mph. Rain chance: 80%.

Wednesday night, storms and locally heavy rainfall are likely to continue, especially before 2 AM. Rain and thunder may linger into early morning hours, with lows holding near 69°F (21°C) and southwest winds around 10 mph, gusting again to 20 mph. Rain chance: 80%.

Thursday, June 19 – Juneteenth brings some lingering storms

On Thursday, as the frontal boundary shifts east, a few lingering afternoon storms will remain possible, especially east of I-65. Otherwise, expect partly sunny skies and a high near 83°F (28°C). Winds will blow from the west at around 10 mph. Rain chance: 30%.

Thursday night, any leftover showers should fade before midnight. Skies will turn mostly clear, and it will feel slightly cooler, with lows near 64°F (18°C) and calm winds.

Weekend outlook – Rising sun and rising heat

Starting Friday, a quieter and hotter pattern will return to central Indiana. Expect sunshine and highs in the upper 80s°F (around 31°C). By the weekend, Saturday and Sunday will bring mostly sunny skies and highs pushing into the low 90s°F (32–33°C). Heat index values may climb toward or above 100°F (38°C) by Sunday afternoon, making for a hot and oppressive Father’s Day weekend, especially in urban areas like Indianapolis.
