Sunday evening, June 29, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for northeastern Lake County, as intense storm activity swept across parts of the Chicago area.
According to the National Weather Service, at 9:16 p.m., a strong thunderstorm was tracked near Wadsworth, moving northward at 15 miles per hour. The warning remained in effect until 10 p.m.
Meteorologists warned of wind gusts up to 60 mph (circa 97 km/h) and the potential for penny-sized hail. Residents in the affected area were told to prepare for possible damage to roofs, home siding, and trees, as the system moved through.
Earlier in the evening, warnings were also issued for southeastern Lake and northern Cook counties, but these were later canceled once the storms moved out of those regions.
Looking ahead to Monday, June 30, additional storm activity is forecast, though drier conditions are expected to settle in ahead of the holiday weekend.
