Saturday, July 13, 2025 – SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN – The National Weather Service has issued severe thunderstorm warnings for a wide stretch of southeast Michigan, with alerts remaining in effect through 2:30 p.m. local time. Areas under warning include Detroit, Dearborn, Birmingham, Southfield, Sterling Heights, Warren, St. Clair Shores, Taylor, Utica, Ecorse, Fraser, Garden City, and the Grosse Pointes.
Wind gusts up to 60 mph, small hail possible across metro Detroit
Forecasters say storms moving across the metro area could bring damaging wind gusts as high as 60 miles per hour and pea-sized hail, raising the risk of power outages and tree damage in several neighborhoods. The storm system has been tracking quickly across the region and could intensify through the early afternoon.
Strong winds expected across northern Oakland and Macomb counties
In the northern portions of Oakland and Macomb counties, including Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, Romeo, and New Haven, the weather service is forecasting winds up to 55 mph, though hail is not expected in those areas.
Storms hitting Monroe County with wind and hail threat
Further south and east, in eastern Monroe County, communities like Monroe, Carleton, Temperance, and Estral Beach are expected to experience gusts up to 50 mph, with pea-sized hail possible. That system is expected to move through by around 1:30 p.m.
Thunderstorms also impacting parts of Oakland and Lenawee counties
Earlier in the afternoon, storms were reported over parts of Wixom, Novi, and Farmington Hills in Oakland County, as well as Adrian and Tecumseh in Lenawee County, with radar showing fast-moving cells heading northeast.
Small craft advisory in effect for Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron
To the north, the National Weather Service has issued a small craft advisory for Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron, effective from noon until 10 p.m. Saturday. Winds out of the southwest are forecast to reach 15 to 20 knots, creating waves between two and four feet, with isolated wave heights up to five feet.
Hot and humid conditions persist across the region
In addition to the storms, much of southeast Michigan is dealing with intense summer heat. In Detroit, highs are expected to reach 91°F (33°C), while in the Thumb region, temperatures are forecast to hover just below 90°F (32°C).
