Minnesota-1507 - Weather Minnesota: Heavy rain possible Tuesday across central parts of the state

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — Tuesday, July 15, 2025, 7:45 a.m. (local time) – A stretch of hot, steamy weather is kicking off the week across Minnesota, but a shift is coming—and with it, the potential for heavy rainfall in parts of the state, especially on Tuesday.

According to meteorologist Sven Sundgaard, high temperatures today and Monday are reaching into the low to mid-90s (around 33–35°C), making for one of the hottest stretches so far this summer. But a slow-moving cold front will bring a change in the pattern, first sparking storms in northern Minnesota late Monday, then sliding southward by Tuesday.

That’s when central Minnesota—including cities like St. Cloud, Brainerd, and parts of the Twin Cities metro—could see pockets of significant rainfall. The setup isn’t especially favorable for widespread severe weather, but forecasters are watching for slow-moving thunderstorms capable of producing torrential downpours that could lead to localized flooding, especially in urban areas and poor drainage zones.

Air quality remains an issue across parts of the region, with smoke from Canadian wildfires contributing to elevated pollution levels. A shift in wind direction following the frontal passage could bring some relief by late Tuesday into Wednesday.

By midweek, expect a sharp cool-down. Highs on Wednesday and Thursday will settle into the low 70s (around 21–22°C), with lingering showers possible Wednesday, especially in eastern Minnesota. But by Thursday afternoon, conditions are expected to feel noticeably more comfortable, with lower humidity and clearer skies returning.
