Heavy overnight rainfall has triggered widespread flooding across Acadiana early Friday morning, prompting multiple road closures in Lafayette, Iberia, and St. Martin Parishes. As of now, numerous urban and rural routes are impassable due to high water levels, and officials are urging residents to avoid affected areas.
Lafayette Parish under water: key roads blocked
Severe street flooding has rendered a large portion of Lafayette Parish’s network inaccessible. Among the most critical closures:
Beacon Drive, Chemin Agreable, Chemin Metairie, and Country Run Drive are currently not navigable. Residential areas like Dustin Circle, West Fairfield Drive, Fortune Road, and Guillot Road—from Nezpique Road to Langlinais Road—are also underwater.
Major thoroughfares like La. 89, especially at Ben Franklin Drive, and La. 339 from Millcreek to La. 92, are shut down due to high water hazards. Key intersections including Verot School Road between Briar Meadow Drive and East Milton Avenue have become danger zones.
Additional impacted roads include Robicheaux Road, Sara Dee Drive, Savoy Road, Velascco, Squirrel Run, and parts of Young Street.
Iberia Parish: flooding disrupts countryside and industry routes
In Iberia Parish, both rural roads and urban intersections are seeing dangerous flooding conditions. Broken Arrow Road, Chastant Road, Coteau Road, and both North and South Freetown Roads are closed.
The intersection of Admiral Doyle Drive and Corporate Drive, a key industrial access point, is currently blocked. Roads such as Forest LeBlanc, Hazard, Hayes, and Sandoz are submerged and unsafe.
St. Martin Parish: state highways affected
Floodwaters in St. Martin Parish have led to major transportation disruptions. La. 96 at La. 345, and La. 347 from La. 328 south to La. 678, are experiencing flooding that halts all traffic.
Residential and rural connectors like Capritto 40 Arpent, Forum Drive, Hughes Road, and Maurice Road are no longer safe for travel. Portions of Old Spanish Trail Hwy. between Smede Hwy. and Duchamp Road and the 1000–1200 block of Petroleum Parkway are impassable due to standing water.
Conditions remain dynamic across Acadiana, and updates are expected throughout the day. Emergency teams are monitoring water levels and rainfall rates. Drivers are advised to stay off all flooded roadways, as water levels may continue to rise with additional rainfall in the forecast.
